Can't play music on ipod nano 7th GEN

Alright so I have tried several different things and it still has not worked.

SO here is what's going on; when I try to download music or audio books onto my ipod by either dragging and dropping them or syncing it/sending it from itunes to the ipod. However, even though

I can almost always see the files in "MUSIC"  when I click on them, they either go back to the music menu or restarts the device, or goes the to the "White screen of death".

NOTES: The pc I'm using is win-10 and  I tried the files as mp3 formats (the downloads were m4a) and nothing changed.
