Poor student who still wants to game

Greetings, everyone.

I've registred an account here after thinking where I could find help for building my first PC.

About me: I'm currently 22 years of age, living in Germany and will be moving into my own flat soon, due to studies.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to take my current PC with me, apart from the GPU. So I was hoping you guys could help me out.

I'm looking at having 2 monitors. (By the way, is it possible to use a laptop as a second monitor? Could I plug my laptop into my new rig?)

I don't know much, apart from some basic stuff (maybe not even that, lol), about PC's and building them, but I've made a rough draft of the parts I want.

I'm living in Germany and was hoping to stay under €500, but the draft I made takes me to over €600 *cries in broke*.

Here it is:

GPU (the one I will be taking with me)   6144MB Gainward GeForce GTX 1060

CPU                                                       AMD Ryzen 3 1200 3,1GHz AM4                                     107€

Motherboard                                         ASUS Prime B350-PLUS AM4                                          90€

RAM                                                      Corsair Vengeance LP Series DDR3-1600, CL9 16GB   150€

Power Supply                                        CS-M Series CS650M                                                      80€

HDD                                                       Western Digital STA 6G 1TB                                           50€

SSD                                                       Team Group DARK L3 Series SATA 6G 60GB                 50€

Monitor                                                  ViewSonic VA2265SMH, 54,61 cm                                    100€

Keyboard                                              Cougar 200k                                                                      30€

Mouse                                                   Gigabyte M6900 Gaming Mouse                                        25€

And I'd obviously need a case, but I have no idea how to choose one, and a windows license.

If there is a chance to cut down some of these prices, I'd be more than grateful.

The games I'm looking forward to playing (mainly) are World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Rocket League and Final Fantasy 14.

If there's more information that you need, I'll provide! lol

Thanks for reading.

TBH I'd scrap that SSD. 60 gigs might be barely enough, but it's 1EUR/gig. Would rather not spend that much and buy a better one down the line.

I'd look on the second hand market for a decent PSU/

For a case I can recommend nzxt if you like their aesthetics.

Or grab a free one from an old pc on eBay Kleinanzeigen if you really want to save money and don't care about looks :)

I'd say go with 8GB of ram. I have 8GB and no problems at all. I barely hit 7gb when I"m running VM chrome tabs and over watch :P

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the help so far :D

I've scrapped the SSD and AMD Ryzen and put the Pentium g4560 on my list, as well as replacing the 16GB of RAM with 8GB of Corsair Vengeance, which is half the price of the 16GB version (obviously? lol).

How about the motherboard? Is it still compatible?

Also, would a 500 watt power supply suffice? ^^

I don't think I would buy the G4560. Check you local used markets.

The ASUS Prime B350-PLUS AM4 motherboard is not compatible with an Pentium G4560. You need to get one with the LGA1151 socket.
You will also have to make sure your RAM is supported by the motherboard, since DDR3 and DDR4 are using different slots. But the G4560 does support DDR3 and DDR4.

But as @JDE already said you should check the local used markets. On ebay Kleinanzeigen you can find CPU/motherboard combos for a decent price.

For the PSU, a 400-500W unit should be totally fine. The graphics card draws at its peak around 120 Watts, the G4560 would draw 75 Watts maximum. So there is left enough room for all the other stuff. You can also find some decent priced PSUs at ebay Kleinanzeigen.

To use your notebook as an external monitor is not possible as far as i know. But since you have a Laptop; did you think about using that one with an external GPU. If you have an Thunberbolt 3 or TB3-compatible USB-C connection it may be useful to put more research into this topic.

@Baumibert, @JDE, @Glennieboyyy007 Thank you all very much!

I've found a MSI 250M Pro-VDMSI 250M Pro-VD Motherboard, which says that it supports the 1151 socket, and a 500w PSU.

Thanks to you all I've managed to drop down to €480 by scrapping the SSD and replacing the parts mentioned before!

I don't know if I'm allowed to link the German site I'm planning on buying from, but they seem to have reasonable prices 9_9

Maybe I'll be able to get an additional discount if I ask them with a friendly smile :x

There are some videos on YouTube that show how to connect a laptop or tablet with a desktop PC by using a software, maybe I will give that a try?

Lastly, I'll need a case.

Excuse my ignorance, but it just needs to fit all the parts in and leave some room for air-flow, right? D:

Wouldn't any Mid-Tower get the job done? :D

Yeah, just take anyone you like. To get sure it fits your motherboard just look at its form factor. If it is a atx-board you will also need an atx-case. But anything smaller than atx, like micro-atx, will also fit into the atx-towers.

Done. Thank you very much!

Btw I realized that, wouldn't I also need a cooler for my CPU?! :o Since the CPU is just the "tray version", it says.

Since I don't want to further molest my bank account, I think I'll choose one for €20 from Alpenföhn, which has good reviews.

Bloody hell, that is going to be one expensive month.

Hey Rahban, most of us like a challenge build, bit of fun to put together.

I have two pre-existing whole builds for Intel / Ryzen at a tad over $1000 AUD I made the other day which are these, take a look.

Ryzen: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/4mydRG

Intel: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/vW2wsJ

To everyone - should we really be recommending a Pentium G4560?

If you pick out the parts on partpicker and then punch in your custom prices, it would give us all something to aim for (0 euro for your GPU, other prices without adding the links or store you're purchasing from ;) ).

You can use your laptop as a second monitor of sorts if you use a program like Synergy, in my experience though if both laptop and desktop run windows, Mouse Without Borders works better and is free.

Well look at the budget, perhaps have something constructive to say for this guy buying a PC instead of 'this isn't any good'. That's your opinion, but they're compatible and within his budget, remember, many people don't want to wait months to save up to afford the latest greatest gaming rig.

These lists come from myself specing up a generic parts list using AUD prices then just looking at the de version of the website. They're not the holy grail, they're a couple of suggestions.
