Do I really need 2 more cores for gaming and/or video editing & 3D ?

In fact, I juste realized that my mb wasn't even compatible with 8-cores processors (don't ask me how, I don't know.)

So I'm just going with the FX-6300, and the next time I'll need more CPU power, I'll go the Intel side [or just stay if AMD release something great :D]

Thanks all for your answers !

[EDIT]: Crowcore, t'es français ? ^^

Yes I am! From Paris, but I study in Berlin.

Don't know anything about AMD chipsets at the moment, but games only usually use 1-2 cores but if you're going to render and things like that then more cores the better. GL

Basically, Going 2 cores to 4 cores is a huge difference, you'd notice it in games like BF3, Metro 2033, Civ, Crysis, etc.

Going between my own desktop which has an overclock quad core 2500K at 5Ghz and my fathers CAD workstation with an eight core E5-2660.. I don't really notice that huge of a difference with games or web browsing.

However, if I went to open any adobe application or CAD, it ran so much faster on the workstation, which is a given. 16 threads and 32GB of RAM vs 4 threads and 8GB on my own computer. Yeah there's a difference with optimized applications for many cores/threads, but for games. No.
