An AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600X alongside a GeForce GTX 1060.

Ryzen CPUs actually see a performance boost with faster-clocked memory so plan on getting the fastest one you can but don’t go too crazy as faster RAM also has more CAS latency.

The Workhorse (AMD-powered custom desktop)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | GPU: MSI X Trio GeForce RTX 2070S | RAM: XPG Spectrix D60G 32GB DDR4-3200 | Storage: 512GB XPG SX8200P + 2TB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda Compute | OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

The Portable Workstation (Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2021)

SoC: Apple M1 Max (8+2 core CPU w/ 32-core GPU) | RAM: 32GB unified LPDDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD | OS: macOS Monterey

The Communicator (Apple iPhone 13 Pro)

SoC: Apple A15 Bionic | RAM: 6GB LPDDR4X | Storage: 128GB internal w/ NVMe controller | Display: 6.1" 2532x1170 "Super Retina XDR" OLED with VRR at up to 120Hz | OS: iOS 15.1

Is the X Worth $50?

IMO, if you’re into overclocking, get the 1600 and save a couple bucks.

Looking at the stats it looks better with the X

I know a lot of people who bought the 1600 non-X and overclocked it.

IMHO, the 1600 is the better option as XFR on the 1600X will be disabled when applying a manual OC and the 1600 comes with a cooler. Irrelevant when you are already planning to add a beefier cooler, but if you haven’t got one, it’s a significant factor.

That’s a solid choice if you’re not planning to OC but if you are, save the $50 and get the 1600.

The 1600 on a B350 Mobo with G.Skill Flare X 16GB Kit DDR4 2400MHz RAM and then OC it to 29 33? relaxed timings?

Should be alright. Don’t forget to do a memory stress test after to make sure it’s stable

I’m no expert on AMD motherboards, and I don’t have much experience in the reliability of ASRock motherboards, but this one seems to enjoy a high rating on Newegg.
