Vega 64 Desktop temps and power (non-game)

tridy

Hi.

How much power does it consume and what are the temperatures of Vega 64 are when running:

1) Desktop apps (office, browser, youtube videos)?

2) HTPC mode (lets say 4K BRRip video in KODI)

would it be relevant to count how much power a video card consumes if I want to keep the PC "on" most of the time, without any heavy tasks?

and if we compare that to the power consumption of 1080 and 1080Ti in Desktop, will there be much difference?

Thanks!

Are you buying it to use for office work? The only power consumption that really matters is the max, and electricity is so cheap most places it doesn't make that much of a difference. On idle, it'll probs be pretty low, just like any other GPU.

Power draw = too much

Vega 56 = 210 Watt's

Vega 64 = 295 Watt's

And vega 64 Liquid cooled = 345 Watt's

Damn that power usage

For home, but I often work from home and keep the computer on most time, doing usual desktop tasks, and programming.

Literally watch the reviews on it. Basically everybody goes into the power draw aspect.

Will it be the same as "idle" temps?

idle temps maybe 25-35*c? my 1080ti produces that kind of result when not in use. so i guess it'll be the same. one way or another... i can't find a reviewer that discussed "idle temp" as of yet :S

actually "idle power consumption" with 2 x 4K monitors in Desktop would be really interesting.

Are you gonna game or use GPU intensive tasks?

Why are you even buying a high-end card in the first place for those basic task? Even onboard will be sufficient enough. If not, get like a GTX 1050.

I want to game (and my son as well) but I have to work Mon-Fri, sometimes from home.

Thanks for the info.

would it translate the power consumption accordingly?

Hmmm.... I doubt the GPU will take much power on idle, and unless your electric is really expensive, it won't be enough to notice.

Should I see

2 x 1200p in Desktop

vs

2 x 4K in Desktop

as more or less equal "idle"?

power consumption and temperature are 2 completely different things.

Idle means the computer is just ON (like you turned it on and it's finished booting up all the way, but you aren't using it yet, that is what Idle is), your display setup doesn't redefine IDLE, idle is a state of being, not a configuration.

:) what i meant that the difference/ratio in temperatures would match the difference in power consumption.

I thought that "idle" is when the computer booted and it is just the OS that is running, and you are not doing anything for like 10 minutes, and then you measure the temps.

I will legit test my Vega 64 system with 2 4K panels plugged in it and attach a image of power taken from the socket.

System is quite heavy on peripherals however.

116W from the socket.

Thats with a Ryzen 1700 with an AIO and 5 fans.

It also has 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs.

That is just the system on its own.

My 4K panels use 30W each.
