What's the best price for performance 4-Core CPU? (LGA 1151, h110m mobo)

I want to upgrade my processor.. max price is around 230$. I'm using h110m motherboard, lga 1151 socket.. currently using pentium g4560. I want to upgrade to a quad core processor. Preferably below 230$

I assume you have an H110 board, since a G4560 is not LGA 1150, and you say 1151 socket.

 

if you have an H110 board, or any with a 1151 socket, the 7700 (K) is the best CPU you can get right now.

8th gen CPUs probably won't be compatible, but it might be worth it to wait until aug 21st until there's official news.

If it's h81 then it's LGA 1150, Haswell (4th gen) compatible. Since you got an G4560 going it's LGA 1151 and it should be h110. h170. h270.

 

Affordable brand new quad cores should be 6400, 6500, 7400 and 7500. For used then you might be able to get a 6600, 6700.

Given price and interest in value: an i5-6500 or i5-7500.

quad cores with hyperthreading. quad cores aren't worth it anymore, if you are buying one might as well go hex core because AMD delivers that

In terms of value for your your money they are actually better than quads with HT on the 1151 platform. The HT tax is not justified by its impact on performance.

i5s are still more worthwhile for a majority of buyers, and they are certainly the choice for someone looking for a CPU which provides the best value and a CPU for less than $230...

That doesn't make any sense, he cannot buy a Ryzen 1600 and slap in in his 1151 motherboard... He asks for a  CPU <$230 for his current motherboard and gets all sorts of misleading advice, including terrible value i7s outside his price range... 9_9

nope nope nope, any big (and a lot of small ones) game released past a couple months and into the future is capable of using minimum 6 cores or more and locked i7s have beating the snot out of max OC'd i5s for generations

You are clearly not understanding the statements you are replying to and what you are saying yourself.

You tell me "games can use more than  4 cores". SO?

1) i7s don't have mroe than 4 anyway

2) I never used the argument "games don't take advantage of more than 4 cores"

3) i7s having better performance (while being more expensive, duh) doesn't mean at all that (a) they are better value, or (b) that the performance of i5s will be bad. Performance per dollar was and remains worse in i7s. That's without even entering on which GPU OP has (remember he's coming from a Pentium build and on a budget), which no one even asked. He could even not see any difference due being GPU-bound.
