AKG K7XX ($199) or Sennheiser HD 650 ($315)

Thanks in advance

Definitley not HD650, the HD6xx's are the same thing but for $200 (not available to order till like 2018 again though). I'd probably get the K7xx's

Why the akg?

Because when you're able to get HD6xx's at $200 at massdrop during certain events, it makes the value of HD650's at $315 too much

Never had open back but heard great things

Specially with an amp

So you want gaming headphones? Do you have a budget? If you want gaming, do you prefer explosions or footsteps? Do you want to enjoy music too?

I've been using a yeti mic

So I'd like headphones by themselves

Music YouTube and gaming

Okay, I'll make some recommendations, not in any particular order.

Any of these, aside from the Fostex, will be good without an amp.

In general, closed has better bass and open has better soundstage.

Soundstage is how big the sound is, cans with small soundstage sound like the sound is coming from around your ears, cans with big soundstage sound like it's coming from the other side of the room.

Ask for more details on a certain set.

Audio Technica M40x- Closed, Very good sounding $100 cans, no treble murder like the M50xs have. Brainwavz pads recommended.

https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Headphones-Replacement/dp/B01E9G5JQK/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502388859&sr=1-4&keywords=m40x

or refurb version (why not)

https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-Professional-Headphones-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B016YKB8ZU/ref=pd_sbs_23_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B016YKB8ZU&pd_rd_r=8GFQ312KQFTPCTGSTH6R&pd_rd_w=GTSxp&pd_rd_wg=P8vdO&psc=1&refRID=8GFQ312KQFTPCTGSTH6R

Status Audio CB-1s- Closed, Cheap, built cheaply, sounds amazing, comfortable, ugly (but not hideous), compatable with vmoda boom pros (cheap good boom mic).

https://www.amazon.com/Status-Audio-Closed-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B01BDX1IVW/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1502389070&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=status+audio+cb-1

Fostex T50rp MKIII- Semi-open, Needs a powerful amp, amazing sound for the price, retro look, "stock pads will give you ass cancer" so needs hybrid pads or 1540 pads (1540 pads recommended).

https://www.amazon.com/Fostex-Professional-Studio-Headphones-Semi-Open/dp/B0167XM092/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1502389248&sr=1-2&keywords=fostex+t50rp+mk3

Superlux HD668B- Open, Massive soundstage, sounds pretty good, cheapest pair on the list, stock pads are terrible, get replacement ones.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JOETX8/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_1_w

Philips SHP9500- Open, Cheap, Soundstage, comfort for days, build quality, boompro compatable, comparable to senn HD600s

https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1448205389&sr=8-1&keywords=philips+shp9500&linkCode=sl1&tag=zeos-20&linkId=0688cadd56dee7d5a52cda0fbcba8f59

B&O H6 2nd gen-  Closed, Smooth as hell, pleasant (sound) in every way, comfortable, fashionable.

https://www.amazon.com/PLAY-Bang-Olufsen-Headphone-Generation/dp/B01B45RTSK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502390149&sr=1-1&keywords=b+and+o+headphones+h6

Pads for Superlux 668b

I disagree. The HD650 is still generally the better headphone. Besides, the HD650 is still better than the 6XX for some people - it's got a longer cable from the factory, and the plastics are higher quality (at least, nicer than the first run of the 6XX...) Also, there's the whole waiting thing that happens with massdrop. For me personally, the HD650 would be well worth the ~$100 price increase if I got them this week, rather than next year.

Not really... HD650 were always a good value at the 300-350 they usually are. 6XX were just amazing value.

Dont get me wrong, I'll be the first to admit I'm a huge Sennheiser fan boy and I love my HD6xx's, but $100 is $100. I guess I'm not enough of an audiophile to be able to say the $100 price increase is worth more than $100...

(I also actually bought a shorter cable for my HD6xx, for the longest time i didnt even realize it came with a shorter than advertised cable haha!)
