980ti => 1080ti worth it?

from what im seeing a 1080ti gets around 35fps in ark at epic in 1440p, your call.

I want strong single graphics card performance, as I play a lot of unfinessed games that can't utilise SLI (Also I only have one PCI-e slot on my mobo).

So in this instance, is upgrading from a 980ti to a 1080ti worth it?

(Also worth considering I can sell a 980ti for roughly £350 and buy a 1080ti for about £650)

Resolution? If you want to play games at 4K ultra/max then it would be, but if you are happy to turn down settings a little then it isnt necessary.

in my opinion, no, stick with the 980ti for 1 generation or 2 if you can, really depends the games.

1440p 144hz. I want to hit the ultra option on the dropdown menu

I play games like ARK:SE and Snail Games' new Dark & Light. I also play quite intensive games (GTA v and The Witcher 3 etc) but the upgrade would mainly be for those unoptimized games that i wanna see in ultra without dropping to a jittery and unstable 28fps.

Seeing as you want Ultra it would be good.

If you have the money then just do it.

If you are using the back up money for a holiday.. don't do it.

Overclocked in the past and sat at +80mhz stably until my graphics card exploded and I had to send it back for a replacement. I used MSI afterburner too - not sure what I did wrong but right now I'm sitting on core clock speed from MSI.

I would argue no.

Personally, I don't believe in upgrading your graphics card every generation.

I would wait for Volta at the minimum to maximize on your money.

Not really. Most optimised games run at a stable 80+fps ultra/high and high/medium i get 144fps. The upgrade would mainly be for unoptimised games which need a bit more juice....

Although in typing that out I've kind of talked myself out of it...

If you have the cash then yeah sure, I went from a 980 to a 1080 and would say it's worth it.

It's a big leap, but it should depend on you if you are content with what you have now. If you have enough power for the resolution and refresh rate you're at then dont upgrade. If you want to take a step further and get the highest possible configurations, they by all means upgrade.

I was hoping for a more "This is worth it" / "this is not worth it" set of answers but I think this is a lot more subjective than anticipated.

It should be worth it if you use it to its full potential :)

Maybe for a 1440p monitor a 980ti will suffice haha

Interesting question as I'm going through the same. In my case, I'm holding off my decision until I benchmark myself what sort of framerate I'm getting in practice as until recently I've been capped by 60 Hz monitor anyway. Now with a 144 Hz I actually care about going higher! The other caution is, can the rest of the system keep up, although based on an earlier reply that doesn't seem to be a problem.

I haven't checked, have used 980Ti prices gone up again? I paid less than that for one new! Also the 1080Ti at £650 would be rather impressive, if the cooler on it doesn't suck. Been debating various EVGA/Gigabyte models around £700+ mark.
