People don't mine bitcoins anymore unless they are using special compute chips designed for it.  Gpu mining is on etherium and zcash right now.

Yes

How much can we make money from mining bitcoins in 2017?

Depends on your setup

Why do people still mine bitcoins these days?

to make money

alternatively you can invest in the cryptocurrencies and tokens - like a financial instrument - similar to day trading except with bitcoins - the market never closes, it runs 24/7

Talking to someone else. Yeah, this site has two themes, night and day. You can change at the bottom of the page. Default is day. Try them. A lot of people copy and paste and Google Chrome makes it black automatically, and not auto change.

No, I don't. I do know that you can make quite a bit. The amount you can make in a day depends on your GPU.

Just check hash rate online. RX 580 will make $29 per day. GTX 1070 will get a bit less, I don't know, maybe about $24 or $25.

i mined ethereum for 2-3 months using minergate and my gtx 980.

I had to downgrade my drivers to a 2012 version (can't remember which one). The newest driver gave me 2-3MH/s but when i changed the driver back got 19-22MH/s.

In that time i made about $15. Not really very much because it wasn't religious 24/7. I like to be able to actually use my computer so sometimes it wasn't mining.

due to the prices of ethereum being everywhere right now haven't really been mining a bunch.

So yes you can make money. But is it really worth burning up your graphics card for a few extra bucks?

Really?? That's quite some money... For about 16 days I can get my money back from what I spend to buy GTX 1070!

why don't everybody just mine cryptos then?

Is that BTC, LTC, or Etheriem, or what?

Without major investments in dedicated miners (ASICs), no.

A decent ASIC is upwards of $5000 (fuzzy on actual prices, don't care for crypto anymore).

(ASIC price + electricity bill)/daily payout = No. of days to recover investment

followed by

Electricity bill - daily payout = profit.

Crypto mining is a long term investment that can go either way.

You either recover your money and go into the green OR you lose your investment due to market volatility.

Woah woah woah no.Thats very high.By using a mining calculator and a sorta generous hashrate for 580 with no power included, its 2 a day. So with power, its less than two (although the calc might be kinda off, I think theres people here who make 2.50)

Etherium. Power is expensive in a lot of places though. In Taiwan, during off peak hours, where I used to live (NOT SAYING) is 65c / kWH. During peak, it's over a dollar.

Of course it's worth it if you can get your money back in less than a month. It's not like your graphic card will burn up less than that right?

So why do people mine? 2.5 a day is like nothing, maybe it's even like losing money considering the electricity bills, and burning GPU.
