I have a 2015 razer blade, and I was wondering if overclocking it was safe since it normally runs at around 85c under full load. I don't care about how hot the keyboard gets as I use an external one. What would be considered "safe" overclocking wise, and do you have any tips on how to make it run cooler?

Even if you do overclock, you probably will run into a wall of thermal problems before getting any significant improvement.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

In my experience I have overclocked a Mobile GPU (Not too old) but it was an AMD Laptop and it ran hot (85-93 when stressed and 72-80 with a 4000RPM fan). Technically you can. Should you? No. Why? It seems your laptop does not have sufficient cooling. Is overclocking safe? Yes and no. If your temperature is safe (under 95 Celsius CPU and GPU) then yes. Remember that overclocking requires to be stable, and to be stable it needs more energy so it needs more volts. How to make it cooler? There are A LOT of ways. I will start with the most safe to the most "Dangerous": Cooling pad, USB or external Computer Fan(Running minimum at 800RPM), Clean dust, Change thermal paste and Mod heatsink. How can I overclock it? GPU: MSI Afterburner, CPU: Intel Xtreme Utility, iGPU: Intel Xtreme Utility.

85C is pretty much hitting the thermal limit for both CPU and GPU already, you don't want to push more unless you want it to die early.

And Razer laptops have been known for dying early...

CPU: Ryzen 2 2700@ 4.0Ghz    Mobo: Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7 Wifi    Cooler: EVGA CLC 240    GPU: GTX1080 FTW DT @ 2113Mhz   PSU: EVGA 750W P2

Case: Fractal Design Meshify C   Displays: 34" LG34UC79G, 24" Dell

Considering Razer laptops often have issues performing to spec Overclocking your system seems like a good way to kill it without actually gaining any performance (since it would likely throttle before your OC kicked in).

If anything you want to Undervolt and Underclock your system.

The Potato Box:

AMD 5950X

EVGA K|NGP|N 3090

128GB 3600 CL16 RAM

The Scrapyard Warrior:

AMD 3950x

EVGA FTW3 2080Ti

64GB 3200 CL16 RAM
