This tuesday, I had an internet upgrade at my house and I now have 220 Mb/s download and 30 Mb/s upload. My computer is connected by ethernet (cat 6) to a Linksys EA6400 AC1600 router. I haven't been able to have the full 220 Mb/s and the fastest download speed I was able to achieve on speedtest is 98 Mb/s. I know next to nothing about networking and I'm wondering what I'm missing to actually experience the full speed. Thanks.

I assume your computer has gigabit Ethernet instead of 10/100 right?

Most likely cause - some part(s) of the path from your computer to the WAN is 100Mbps. If it is not the router or the PC, it is one of the cables.

might be the lan ethernet connector or the provider, often those speed specs are best case scenarios and the speed you actually have depends on how many people around also use the internet at the moment

The thing is I did the speed test when there was nobody home. That's why I found it really low

Have you tested with other devices to see if they're getting better speeds?

I'd also check your link to your router to make sure it is actually running at 1Gbps. If you check the speed and duplex settings for your NIC, you should be able to set it manually to 1Gbps. If it refuses to work or the option is not there, it's likely a hardware issue, most likely the cable.

How's the speed via WiFi? Have you tested? There's a Ookla Speedtest app for both Android and iOS.

Im guessing your on Cable Internet. If thats the case, you could have signal issues, be on a congested node, or they sent the wrong config file to your modem. The config file tells the modem what speeds to operate at.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Wifi 5ghz, in the room with weakest signal, I get 134.65 Mb/s. Much better than ethernet. That's why I'm like wtf

Have a laptop and a spare Ethernet cable to test with?

No your cable modem signals. Not WiFi.

Looks like this. If your modem isnt operating in the certain signal range it can slow down. Such as if you have interference on a downstream channel and such.

Yep I understood what you meant (I think) but what I was trying to say is that there is a problem with my ethernet connection since my wifi connection (in a room with a below average connection) was faster than my ethernet one. Either way, hard resetted my router and it's fixed now

I made a hard reset on my router and speeds are much better. However, I was hoping on breaking the 200 Mb/s since I have an advertized 220 Mb/s

Do you guys think there still something wrong ot for 220 Mb/s, this is normal? Thanks
