Could I turn my ps3 into something useful?

I am going to be going to a friends house but my computer doesn't have onboard wifi and I haven't had the money to buy a wifi card.. Is there a way that I could install linux or something so that I could have the ps3 connect to wifi and use the ethernet port to connect it to my pc so that I'd have an internet connection?

you cant do shit with the PS3 unless its the OG one AFAIK. had a friend try do stuff with his but seeing as it wasent the original one with backwards compatability ect.. it was imposible

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

There was a way to get Linux working on a PS3... but it's more of a hassle than it's worth and I'm not sure if it was limited to the first generation PS3s.

IIRC if you have the original PS3 and firmware you should be able to install Linux on it. Anything but the first generation though you cannot. Not sure if you'd be able to bridge it though.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Linux on PS3 is so old that it's been disabled now. Well if you want you can still get a firmware downgrade. 

But that's just a really stupid way of doing stuff, and not sure if PS3 hardware can even support bridging network

Yup, you'll just need to get George Hotz to break his court ordered silence against Sony devices, then convince the YellowDog Linux maintainers to pickup development from the latest release back in 2012. Best of luck to you otherwise, since Console manufacturers still believe that they own the hardware even after you purchase it, which is similar to a dealership welding the hood of your car shut so only they can service it. le sigh Isn't corporate America great?

The only use for a PS3 is blu ray player, as it was one of the best ones ever released. Or a boat anchor. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
