I'm frightened! I just tried to use the search function for the first time. I clicked on the field to type something in, and a dropdown menu appeared containing info that seemed very specific to me. I hadn't typed anything yet, and what I was going to look for had nothing to do with music, but this appeared in the menu:

http://prntscr.com/fw9yah

How did it know this about me, since most of it I have never referenced here? I'm going to hide under my bed now, which will be very difficult since my mattresses sit directly on the floor. Shhh! Is that a drone? (runs to bedroom).

Seriously though. How did it know these things about me?

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."

@Jade Thanks. I didn't realize it could access that info. Kinda scary though.

The suggested searches were (probably) never even sent to the LTT servers -- it seems to be your browser just looking at your behavior in the past and suggesting it whenever it sees you're interested/focused on a search field.

That had nothing to do with the NSA or LTT. That is your browsing history specifically Auto Complete history in Microsoft Edge.

Also, why Microsoft Edge?

@hey_yo_ Thank you. I learn something new everyday ^_^ The post title was intended to be sarcastic. I didn't really think it had anything to do with either one. I was just curious as to how that info appeared. Now thanks to you, and Jade, I understand.

Yup, the NSA no doubt wouldn't let LTT into anything. If LTT can have a forum breach and not know about it for a period of time (No offense to any LTT staff), they can't be trusted with NSA tools and data. I'm not saying that because I totally don't work for the government communications security bureau. I do not assist in the unethical surveillance of citizens.

You are right. Not even NSA can be trusted with NSA tools!

@hey_yo_ Just thought I'd give it a try. I got annoyed at Chrome, and then at Firefox for trying to download apps I didn't want.

@The Belgian Waffle One of my all time favorite Jazz musicians.:D

@yathis They know everything about me anyway. I used to have a DOD secret level clearance. On a humorous note, when I first had to apply for my DOD pass, the FBI talked to all my neighbors, asking them questions about me. I came home from work one day, and all my neighbors came running over "What did you do?"  They thought I was in some kind of trouble.  :D

Oooh! I just now switched to the "night theme". Awesome! Much easier on the eyeballs.

Yeah....those background checks (in same boat too).

Don't blame you though for being a bit leery about the browser doing that.  (even I would be like....what the crap is that)

Looks like you're using Edge based on the prompt... that's a browser thing. Chrome doesn't even suggest anything, for me--even when I type stuff into the search.

It's the same in both Chrome and Opera for me. Clicking doesn't immediately show anything, but clicking a second time or pressing the down arrow brings up random stuff I probably typed at some search field of some website at some point.

Mine still doesn't do that. I can click on it, start typing, have nothing in it and press the down arrow both with and without something in the field. In fact, I don't get any suggestions in any search fields (other than my address bar & Google, as I have those settings enabled). I'm led to believe it's this second option in Chrome.

There's also this setting in O&O ShutUp10 that might have something to do with it--in Edge, anyway.

I have it off as well. I think it must have something to do with auto-fill settings, although under auto-fill settings it only shows addresses and cards. But it stores way more than that. Maybe you have that off?

I have that off as well, yup. I don't think that's what it is, though, as my friend who does use Autofill doesn't get suggestions either.
