So, apparently Google:

Quote

(...) quietly introduced a new security feature in Android 7.1 Nougat called “panic detection” which listens for multiple back button presses in succession then returns the user to their home screen.

This update works:

Quote

Quite simply, if a rogue applications attempts to hijack the user’s screen and prevent the user from leaving (perhaps by implementing an Accessibility Service to intercept all key events), Android will itself override the application to bring back the home screen. The user can then presumably uninstall the malicious application from the launcher.

Original article can be found here: XDA-Developers

Well, in my opinion it's simple but very important update to Android eco-system.

Many times I found myself helplessly clicking back button to get out of and website (I suppose it will also work with Chrome) which turned out to be a some kind of a malicious loop.

Now Android will recognize that I want to get out of this "place" and will close whatever is on my screen and will get back to home screen.

Great! :)

What do You guys think about it?

Is it even worth mentioning?

What is wrong with using the application switcher? Are malicious apps or websites over riding this? I have not yet experienced a malicious app on my phone

Some malicious apps have pop ups and you cannot click on anything but back especially if its job is to pop up constantly. . Ive seen a few only due to people bringing them to me to fix the issue.

Its already been useful on my Asus TF201 and TF700. Turns out that its very useful on Tegra 3 based tablets with 1GB of RAM (the RAM is the main limit as enabling zram solves a lot of freezes/slowdowns)

You may not notice it at first, with their deceiving blank faces, but there they are, silently plotting, discretely conspiring...

and then...

Two of my buddies / co-workers also have Nexus 6P's, and they've had a few battery related issues / glitches come up...so I've held off from updating the SW since then.

I don't know...my 6P is also bone stock from the Google farm too, so I get updates as soon as they are announced / released lololol.

I guess it's good to see that despite a malicious app's best efforts, the OS can still listen for this input, detect it, and take action, which frankly is more than I would have expected from android.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Simple but very important feature of this OS :)

Yes, important, that's a very basic thing any OS should have... without that it would be a complete joke

The fact it can do this is good, but it is in no way special or deserving of praise.  It's sort of like how you expect a GPU to be able to render your display and output a signal

Don't mistake that for this specific feature tho, I do like that, and that is a cool addition :)
