Engadget has the first look at iBuyPower's prototype for a Steam Machine PC, which is due to be released in 2014. It looks nothing like a PC, instead taking a page out of the Guide To Designing Home Video Game Consoles.

There are two variants, with a "light bar" that seems to be able to change colour, which is neat.

To start, iBuyPower hasn't said what the specs of this box were, but it's a Steam Box so...really any hardware configuration.

Secondly, I personally do not like the look of the lemon and lime versions (that's what I'm dubbing them), but the cherry version (again, what I'm dubbing it) does look nice. I would still like to see a darker version of it though...or a red version...or a blue version...

It's good to hear that another company is behind the whole Steam Box thing, but then again, anybody can throw together a PC and call it a Steam Box. Just a marketing ploy (the 'Steam Box' name) if you ask me, but hey, if it moves more people over to PC gaming, I'm all for it.

EDIT:

Here's the known specs, as found in the source from The Verge.

-Multicore AMD CPU

-R9-270 GPU

-500GB hard drive

-Built in Wifi

-Built in Bluetooth

-Integrated power supply

-Bigger than the PS4, smaller than the Xbox One

-Comes with Valve's Steam controller

-$500

All in all, for only $500, this is quite the powerful system.

+1 iBuyPower

From the engadget article: "while the company wouldn't tell us about the boxes' internals, it did confirm that the hardware will run all Steam titles in 1080p resolution at 60fps." How are they making such claims!? Only a few games actually work on Linux, and that all the games will be running at 60fps, well yeah depends on settings and the game. Bold statements.
