Using stock intel cooler (no thermal paste) for POST

Cooges

Hi all, recently purchased a new pc and forgot to purchase thermal paste to POST with. I bought a 7770k and was wondering if it'd be wise to use it with the stock intel cooler without thermal paste just for the initial POST.

I bought an NZXT x62 to use with the i7 and I'm just hoping to save myself some hassle.

Thanks in advance.

As long as you're not letting the PC stay on for more than a few minutes, it should be fine. Any longer than 5, I'd say wait until you have paste.

Though, CPU's have protections that will shut them down or throttle to prevent damage.

Just now, Abyssal Radon said:

Doesn't the Intel stock cooler come with pre-applied thermal paste? Surely your NZXT X62 came with thermal paste?

I'll be using a stock cooler that came with my current 3570k, which hasn't been used in a few years since I upgraded to my h100. I took the paste off a long time ago lol.

I personally wouldn't risk $300 CPU, but your money, your loss. It should survive, but not something I would risk.
