Again, its all down to personal preferences. For anti malwhere I use malwherebytes as its what I am used to an have good experience with.

Truth be told you really don't need to use an antivirus or anti-malwhere but just be carful what websites you go onto and what gets downloaded. Windows defender is good enough.

I am looking for a free antivirus software with high detection rate that doesn't impact system performance.

Avira Free antivirus

Hitman Pro (You can activate 30 day trial when something is detected) WAAAAY better than Malwarebytes!

Ublock Origin

Always remember if you detect something always research about it or ask us!

Thanks!

I'd always use AVG, it's lite weight and (unless you set it not to) it'll run in the background all the time and keep monitoring.

I've had times where I downloaded something that had a virus inside and AVG deleted it before I even finished the download.

EDIT: Also the free version which I use is more than enough.

Why windows defender may I ask? OP asked for a AV with high detection rate and Avira has highest and Windows defender has one of the lowest.

I would recommend ublock origin over adblock for a number of reasons, which I think is a subject that should have it's own forum thread!!!

Regardless,
Free software Antivirus - you can always try
Sophos Home! https://home.sophos.com/

Its all a matter of what you look for in an antivirus.

Something light wight that will partly protect you and is free/ paid for

Or something thats very "heavy" but will protect all your files.

Its all down to your preferences and what you trust. None of these programs are the same they all have a slightly different design and list of things they do. Saying one is bad is probably not true, unless its mcafee which is so bad its bundled with other programmes.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I dont take knowledge off random youtube videos. They do not go into the algorithms in use. They dont do a lot of things but they do spread a lot of misinformation. If I was to learn from youtube I would think everybody is a reptilian alien and the world is flat. Go to google scholar.

I should not have to defend Windows defender. It is not crap.

I have also seen a lot of other reviews from different sources and they deliver the same message, Malwarebytes is good but Hitman Pro is better.

and i have seen things that no AV detects.

i am not joking i am serious when i say they are all shit. if someone that trusts me asks for a recommended AV, whatever I give them, it will result in a false sense of security.
