What is the cheapest i7

up to 300 dollar CPU, and usa

yeah i think most ppl would agree that if you intend to be streaming / content creating you'll get more value out of ryzen, even if you lose 5% gaming performance doing so.

What is the cheapest i7

Side-Question: Is the worst i7 better than the best i5?

I don't have a good history with AMD, and most reviews say Intel is better than AMD everywhere.

He could save a bit with an older i7 (eg. i7-2600, i7-3770, and K skus)

If you mean the latest generation, it's the i7-7700 however the i7-6700 only has a bit lower clock speeds and is almost 30$ cheaper on pcpartpicker. Definitely worth those few MHz.

In general, yes. Factoring in the cost of an unlocked i5 platform it makes more sense to get the locked i7 with a cheaper board and a stock cooler, it should last longer and is better in multitasking, it should also support faster GPUs without bottlenecks. Though keep in mind the i5 will have higher singlethreaded performance.

That's not true, Ryzen 5 1600 is a better buy than both i7-7700 and i7-7600K.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION

Well, the worst i7, would be of Bloom or Lynnfield architecture, while the best i5 would be Kaby Lake. The lithography on that wouldn't suit your needs.

Lol wut?

HT weighs more than that frequency bump in any game made after 2013, the i7 7700 outperforms overclocked i5 7600k on any thing including gaming.

Ryzen is amazing, I upgraded from one of the best i7's (6700k) to a 1700 and it's awesome.

Not true

OP - best option is a Ryzen 5 1600. Honestly best value mid-upper-tier gaming chip right now and probably 2nd best mid-upper-tier streaming chip after its bigger brother(s) in Ryzen 7
