Tomb Raider 2013 + 2016. Any connection?

Tech Wizard

Hello,

Just bought Tomb Raider 2013 + 2016 (Rise of the Romb Raider), and wanted to start with 2016, as I won't have a powerful rig in 1 months time. Is there any history/connection between these games, or am I fine starting on 16 then 13?

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12

There is connection but it doesn't matter which game you will play first.

How big/important is this connection? Don't want to miss out on something big :P

The 2013 is about how Lara became the Tomb Raider and a little about her history.

The 2016, Lara is already experienced, game begins with some minor references to the previous game and some characters from that game. After that, the game is pretty much its own thing.

I played Rise of the Tomb Raider without having played 2013 and had an absolute blast. I did not feel like i was lacking in information anywhere down the line, you should be fine :)

Is 2013 based on the game before it as well?

@WereCat @Fredrikmikael

Average playtime required to finish 2016 for an average player? How long did you guys spend finishing this game?

Also WereCat, same question for 2013.

I got 9 hours of play time on the game (just the story), but there are a few optional Tombs i haven't ventured though, thinking about replaying the game and going for 100% as it's been around 16 months since i played it last.
