Final Revisions - New Build 2013

Schmarvin

Introduction

So, it took me forever to get here, but I've finally narrowed it down to the dime. Budget was less than $1000, the less, the better. I wanted something that could play games, not necessarily at the best details, but at least above medium. Plus, I needed it to be able to handle video editing and live streaming, or even just local recording of videos and screen capturing. It also needed to be power enough to run some of my company book-keeping software and database software to quickly read/write on the go.

Now, I've had a few people suggest that I throw in some more money for an Intel i5 3570k. That'd be fine and dandy if I didn't need hyperthreading or I was just doing gaming. But, since this is basically my workstation, I needed more power and hyperthreading enabled in order to efficiently compile and edit videos. Why not an Intel i7 3770k? HAH! That's funny....That would probably be a $2000 build if I had that kind of money. But, I don't, and the cost is kind of outrageous for one of those. I'm not saying they aren't great processors, just over-priced for my budget.

Suggestions, Comments, Concerns?

Now, all I need is a decent cooler, preferably low profile. Any suggestions to that?

Please give suggestions.

Looks cool. I do not know where you live, but where I live Microcenter sells a 3770k for 230 USD. Just a thought, the FX-8350 is still IMO the best price/performance CPU. Also, it is awesome at multi-threaded apps. If you plan on overclocking I would buy an FX-8320 and save a few bucks since they are the same, just clocked slower so they can charge more money for the FX-8350. As for the CPU cooler I do not know what you mean by low profile (I am guessing fans parallel to motherboard like stock cooler.) With that case you can fit much larger coolers, but for a budgetish build the best LP coolers I know of are these: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhc12pse14 ----- http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhc14

Alright, thanks for the tip on the FX-8320. Will do.

As far as CPU cooler, I'm looking for low-profile because I plan on doing some modding and custom interior work to make the inside look pretty after I make a custom plexi window on the case.

I live in the Southeast USA, so I'm not able to get the 3770k. Or at least they say they can't ship to my zipcode.

Looks fine.

Don't bother with extra, fancy case fans just yet. Use that money on the GPU.

A CX500 should be a fine PSU for this "less than $1000" rig.

Not sure which GPU to get at this time, so I'll just use what I currently have in my current computer, which is an Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+

I already have a PSU, its a Seasonic 520W 80+ Bronze Modular

Looks good although you're definitely going to want a good cooler. The FX series chips tend to put out a lot of heat. (Disclaimer: I do not own an FX-8350 so I may be wrong on that chip)

I think Linus just took a look at a low profile Thermalright that looked pretty good. Check it out.

Current Rig
AMD Ryzen 5900X - Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming WiFi 2 - 32 GB GSkill TridentZ RGB
GeForce RTX 3080 - WD Black SN850 1TB  - Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL

Good selection my friend. And for a budget its better to go for the fx 8350 for multi threaded applications, helps a lot.

As for the cooler, being low profile, i am not sure how low do you want. The only two coolers that i can think of right now are from noctuas: NH C14, and NH L12, also, check out the cooler master hyper 212 evo, considered good for its cooling features

if they are still big, that for a closed loop water cooler, like the h80i/h100i/kraken x40

I currently have the fx 8350, and with the stock cooler, it really gets hot, plus, the stock cooler is way noisy[80mm fan running at 6k rpm]
