Go to solution Solved by lukesterboy,

All fixed, just put new ends on the cable, as i expected.

slow internet connection 2.PNG

My ethernet is only working at 10 Mbps now. It always used to work at 1 Gbps. Yes i need 1Gbps because i have a 200Mbps internet connection. Nothing has changed.

Either the device at the other end is 10mbps or the cable is bad.

try a new cable.

Network diagram?

It's a custom cable that i made. What im thinking it might be is maybe the cable has been pulled and one of strands of cables have been pulled out.

Network diagram?

PS on my router page it shows as 1Gbps.

Ok, for sure? I could try unplugging my computer and taking it to the router but that is a lot of hassle.

I would say there are at least 2 or 3 pairs of wires that are bad for it to negotiate to only 10Mbps. Definitely a cable though if you've moved it recently and given it a good tug by accident.

I mean you can purchase a network card to test if its your MOBO, but a cable is WAY more likely in this situation.

welcome to the world of IP hardware troubleshooting, where everything is a hassle.

if you've got a laptop or something, try plugging into the cable at the computer side, see if it's adapter related.

I'm not going to purchase a network card, i don't think it is the mobo the computer hasn't been moved or touched or anything. As i said it worked perfectly fine before 1 Gbps.

Haha. I haven't got any other device i can test it with actually. I'm just going to try changing the end of the cable now, i'll get back to you guys and see if its made any difference.

Move the pc to the router and use a short 5ft cable that you got with it.

See what happens there.

I could do, just means i've got to take a monitor keyboard and mouse, power adapter, etc.

If i do re-wire the cable what wiring diagram should i use, is this ok?

Move the router? You dont need an internet connection for it to negotiate the speed.

doesn't matter. you don't need the coax connected to negotiate a network. It's just a box. you don't need internet to do it.
