Up to you. Wait for the benchmarks to come out.

There was also a thread on one of the deca-core variants reaching 5GHz on all cores, which could mean the hexa-core hits the same level of speed.

If the CPU sells for $400, AMD might be in trouble as enthusiasts usually don't care for bang for buck if an extra $200 means better performance all-around.

Yep, either get a 5820k/6800k/6850k on the cheap - second hand and less than 200-300 bucks - or get an rx 1600/1700

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I'd wouldn't go for X299 if I were you.

What is your primary reason for needing a 6 core CPU?

Yeah, just wait, the 7800X costs $380 and it will probably be able to overclock to 5GHz :D

I would just wait, then. See how the benches do and go from there. Intel's 7700K beats the R5-1600 in nearly every scenario except rendering so if the Skylake-X is a hexa-core, it'll likely exceed the Ryzen chip in even rendering.

You don't have to worry about that stuff unless you are going to buy a 7740X or 7640X ;)

X299 is confusing as hell. If you can get a decent price on the motherboard and RAM and if the quoted MSRP prices are fairly accurate to what will actually be the retail price then there isn't too much against getting Skylake X. It just seems like a ridiculous money grab to me.

If you can pick up a 6 core chip today without having to buy a whole load of new hardware, then wouldn't that be the better option? Especially if you are only streaming and rendering (at least at normal resolutions)

Do we know if they will be releasing more memory support for X299 or no?

If you're only rendering I'd just get the Ryzen 5 1600. Just bear in mind that in gaming it'll perform like a locked i5.

X299 should be supporting almost any speed of RAM and, if X99's memory limit carries over, 128GB of RAM. Like always, get the amount of RAM you need and then the speed that you can pay for.

That's likely the standard config. Much like Z-boards say 2133MHz, but can take upwards of 3200 with some taking 4000MHz.
