Using a solid APC surge protector, receiver's PSU still gets fried after a power interruption

MysticLTT

Why would it, the green light on a surge protector is still on, saying protection is active. Internal PSU is being replaced now at a shop. Why would I buy a protector if it doesn't work?

Power interruption =/= surge

You might want to look up what 'surge' means.

I wake up, all my electronic are blinking with reset clocks, receiver is dead, the guy at shop says, the PSU got burned pretty badly, so whatever happened, wasn't a simple loss of current.

Ok, so then it was a surge not a power interruption, and surge protectors have a minimum joule rating before they kick in.

Maybe your surge protector was defective or the surge wasn't large enough to trigger the protection.

This is actually most likely a coincidence.  In short, if you had experienced the kind of electrical surge that would straight up burn out a PSU, then you would have FAR more problems than one AV receiver that's dead.  You'd be on the phone filing claims with your electrical company while melted ice cream slowly leaks out of your dead fridge and wondering if your television was still under warranty.

What most likely happen is that the PSU itself simply failed in some way and burned up on it's own and this simply coincided with a blackout that you experienced.  Maybe the PSU was slowly failing and giving up the ghost and the one more power cycle from the power going off and on was just what pushed it over the edge.  However, it is pretty unlikely that an outside force outright blew up the receivers PSU but left everything else intact.

If you want better protection look for a UPS. They help smooth out power and even provide power for a limited time during an outage.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
