Digital art Drawing Tablet and Software

Not interesting in the surface or a tablet with screen would be cool but is not a must. I want something I can plug into over usb to my desktop and draw in my lap while I see my work on my monitors come to life.

Also any suggestions on drawing software too?

I want to draw in my free time more, stuff like the attached

This one was recommended to me (wacom cintiq 13, 2014), but not sure what others I should look into (this is one looks very expensive).

Buy Wacom tablets, bar none. Their tablets are of the highest quality I've come across, and I've had to use quite a variety during my career. Ideally, a Cintiq would be great, but if that's out of your price range, go for an Intuos Pro.

The regular Intuos tablets are good too, but if you can afford an intuos pro medium, go for that.

As for programs, there is a huge amount of options. Check out the link to the digital thread programs threads in my signature. At the moment I would suggest Krita.

An Intuos Pro would be better suited, but mind you you're gonna have to work on hand-eye coordination. I have an Intuos3 6 x 8 tablet, and that shit's old _dignity_laugh__by_kimraifan.gif

For software, there's a large number of them. I would recommend Autodesk Sketchbook (it's free for the basic functions, but I would recommend the annual premium model to unlock its full potential, which is Sketchbook Pro). Adobe Photoshop is also a good proposition, and I would upgrade Photoshop and Illustrator to Creative Cloud for the latest features and upgrades, and they provide a student discount if you can prove you're going to school (they don't simply hand this deal out to anyone).

If you're willing to pay like USD $40-80, Clip Studio Paint (formerly Manga Studio) and PortraitStudio (from Istebrak) are good tools for drawing/painting/studying.
