How to get cheap flight training?

Legolessed

So I know your allowed to fly an ultralight without a license but even if I don't need a license, it's probably a good idea to take some flight training so I don't kill myself. I mean I fly radio controlled planes all the time but I doubt that's going to help much. I heard that there are flights that you can take where a pilot will fly you around and basically teach you the basics of flying while in the air and will even let you take control for a bit on the co-pilot stick. Anyone heard of something like this? I live in Vancouver Washington btw.

Yes I live very close to Pearson airport field. I have x plane 10 with the external joystick as it's called in the program.

I'm thinking of getting a sports pilot's license because it's a lot less of a commitment and a pot cheaper. There are downsides but I don't have the money to spend years training to be a pilot.

I'd ask there. They should know a few people who train rookies.

Good place to start getting familiar with pitch, yaw, and elevators. The fine motor skills won't carry over, but the concepts should make things easier as long as you don't rely on the simulation when it comes to using real skills.

When I started for my PPL, the local aero club had a $50 (AUD) starter flight which was basically one circuit. The instructor took off and landed but gave me control for most parts in the air. See if your club has that.

Proper lessons are quite expensive though, so if you don't intend to get your license, probably best to only do the introductory ones on flight controls.

paragliding is another good way to learn for ultralights.

I attend a flight school in NW Ohio, currently working on my instrument cert. When we have prospective students we take them up for a discovery flight which is free, but there is no official training. It looks like your nearby field has a training facility, should definitely give them a call and find out the price.
