Did you include hidden files in that? If not, that's where the additional usage is from.

Windows doesn't create a partition for system files, they sit right on the drive they're installed on along with everything else.

but there are about 1gb of boot paritions and system recovery files.

Those wouldn't show under the C: drive, they're completely hidden from Windows Explorer.

I'm thinking this is a pre-built system, cause "Windows 10 (C:)"

Some pre-built systems have a "RESTORE POINT" that is not shown, hard drive shows full capacity but seems like missing space ( my MSI gaming laptop from 3 years ago ) had one, til I swapped out the spinning disk for an SSD

Hidden files probably.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

You are only looking at Program Files (x86).

You have many other folders under C:\ including Windows itself.

This is what I see from your screenshot.. if not, please give more details.

But if you right-click on C:\ then go on Properties, then you'll see the size being correct, as you have all files and folders.

check your recycle bin as there might be files in there which are taking up a large amount of space

The owner of "too many" computers, called

The Lord of all Toasters (1920X 1080ti 32GB)

The Toasted Controller (i5 4670, R9 380, 24GB)

Bread and Butter Pudding (i7 7700HQ, 1050ti, 16GB)

Pinoutbutter Sandwhich (raspberry pi 3 B)

The Portable Slice of Bread (N270, HAHAHA, 2GB)

Muffinator (C2D E6600, Geforce 8400, 6GB, 8X2TB HDD)

Toastbuster (WIP, should be cool)

loaf and let dough (A printer that doesn't print black ink)

The Cheese Toastie (C2D (of some sort), GTX 760, 3GB, win XP gaming machine)

The Toaster (C2D, intel HD, 4GB, 2X1TB NAS)

Matter of Loaf and death (some old shitty AMD laptop)

windybread (4X E5470, intel HD, 32GB ECC) (use coming soon, maybe)

And more, several more

I believe this view isn't showing you:

- Possible shadow copies

- Pagefile/Virtual Memory (pagefile.sys)

- Hibernate file (hiber.sys)

If you need to free up some space:

- Run disk cleanup and cleanup system files (to purge the winsxs folder and old windows update/installations)

- Sleep is now a hybrid sleep aka hibernate. You can turn it off by opening cmd and running "powercfg hibernate off"

- Reduce the size of System Restore points in Disk properties

- If you have lots of RAM, then reduce/disable the Pagefile from Computer Properties.

- Run something like CCleaner to do a full clean through your registry, temp files, etc...to cleanup the remaining space.

223 GB minus 55.7 GB of free space as Windows is reporting is 167.3 GB of used space. The properties window you have up there is showing only what's in C:\Program Files (x86), not the entire C:\ drive.

Looks like you forgot to unhide system hidden files.

Go to Folder Options > View > and uncheck: "Hide protected operating system files" Click on OK.

Still have hidden files displayed.

Pick all the files/folders in C:\ > Properties, and you'll see it would match.
