Dual GTX 970's for 1440p 60hz?

Okay, so my friend is upgrading to another graphics card and he told me he could give me his two Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 970 4GBs (plus installation and that stuff) for $400 USD. He's only used it for about a year, so they're not in too bad condition. My only question is will this be able to run most games at 1440p 60hz? I currently only have a GTX 950 and need to upgrade, as I struggle to run games like Player Unknown's Battlegrounds at the lowest settings (1080p). I am going to upgrade to 1440p and if this doesn't meet my needs (pretty sure they're needs.... right?) then what should I go for? I'm not looking for anything over $500 and that's pushing it ( I have my eye on some used 980 ti's on eBay).

By the way, my Processor is an AMD FX 8370 at base clock speeds.

I have a 980 ti and it runs pretty much ever game 1440p high - very high settings 60fps and above. Only game I cant get 60 in is ArmA, and that's only some of the time.

Just get a 980 ti.

You could get a 1070 for less than $400. Not worth in the slightest. You're getting ripped from that deal.

that processor is what i should upgrade first. either Ryzen or Intel Skylake / kaby, though as old as haswell / devil's canyon is good too

get a strix 1070. It is the ideal card for 60hz and up 1440p gaming. goes for about 400 on amazon

Considering you can get a used 980 Ti for about $300 thats a garbage price, your friends ripping you off.

Used 970s go for about 120-160 a piece depending on board partner, since you were gonna take both of em off his hands i wouldn't pay him more than $250

If you do go for the 970s then dont pay 400 for them. Ask for 300 without installation. If anything ill guide you through the process of installing them for free since it is pretty straight forward.

That's a terrible deal. I wouldn't have the balls to ask $200 for my 970 if I was to sell it, much less $200 each selling two. You can find the GTX 1070 for $360 brand new and could probably get a used GTX 980 Ti for significantly less than that even, and either would be preferable to two 970s.

tbh, that's a terrible deal

970s are worth about 120 apiece, so I'd offer 250 for both. But, to be honest, a 980ti or 1070 will be a much better choice, as you don't have to worry about SLI issues, higher power consumption, and greater noise/heat output.

Even $300 seems like a lot for two 970s when RX 570 has a $170 MSRP and similar performance.

Plus you'd have a three year warranty on the part of your system you'd be putting the most stress on buying a new 1070.

Most I'd do is $250. Anything above that and you're pushing into used 1070/980ti territory.

GTX 970 is should be £160-180, go for a GTX 1070 even though I want Strix/Zotac GTX 970

Thanks, guys, I'll break the news to him (I'll probably get a used 980 TI or 1070 depending on prices at the time I buy it [Christmas]). I'll keep you guys posted if I have any questions!

Welp. I got him to re-price his 970's at 320 USD. I don't know, I told him I would sleep on it. :/

Advice, please.

Thanks

EDIT: He says they are the "best version" (970 Xtreme gaming) Don't know if this helps
