so i have a older workstation im using now for purely video editing and im able to get a second gtx 1080 off a mate as he has now got the titan Xp [ latest ]

im wondering if im going to get any bottle-necking on this setup, ive read on the evga forums that it shouldn't impact but i want some more opinions, davinci resolve editing, PS, Prem, AE and Light gaming for the lolz.

You should be fine, get it, run benchmarks and compare that to a 7700k + 1080 system

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Well yeah but it won't be a gpu/cpu issue.  There is no issue I can see with your upgrade

It may affect it, but you will definately need more RAM but as soon as you get more you will have no issues as your CPU is decent enough for a 1080.

There aren't really many good triple channel kits out there for sale, as most are just dual or quad channel

Those of us on x58 are a little bit left in the dark era since it never really became mainstream

id just upgrade it to a used 12gb kit or something like that if you are only gaming and not doing any video editing or professional works

Yes it will bottleneck especially in some CPU heavy games that's not well multithreaded like GTA:V@1080p

I would highly recommend getting 3 2x8 kits for a total of 48GB, the manual says you can't, but the x58 and Xeon will accept that RAM.

I'm running a similar system and planning to get GTX 1080 Ti. Bottlenecking is highly exaggerated, my Xeon X5650@4.2 stays 20-30% in most games and for video editing, bottlenecking is non-existent.

Just noticed @4Ghz, bottleneck when gaming is still there but less noticeable.

Remember Ryzen IPC is similar to Haswell but at 4Ghz it still deliver less FPS compare to higher clock i5 Haswell processor.

This is Nehalem which is almost 30% slower in IPC compare to Haswell?

GTA V is a multithreaded game. There's a reason why an i5-3470 or FX-8350 is recommended for that title.

Yes your CPU will hold you back a fair bit unless you aim for 4K gaming and low framerates...that CPU is very dated, it has nowhere near as good an IPC as modern CPU's have...i consider sandy-bridge as a minimum for high performance gaming and what you have there is much slower than that.

Not really well multithreaded, barely/rarely use over 4 cores/threads so if you have over 4T processor but at slower speed/IPC then GTA:5 will perform slower compare to faster 4C/T processors. 12 Threads proc? lel

Task manager only show one part of the story imo. i7-3770@4.4Ghz

ohhh...sorry...then why asking about ''bottleneck'' ?...NO, in productivity it's either the CPU is working on it, or the GPU is working on it, or both are working on it...but the CPU ain't feeding informations to the graphics card like it does when gaming so since the two aren't working togheter, in that the work of one is not really impacted by the other...what you can get into though is storage ''bottleneck'' in that if the data isn't accessed or written fast enough on storage.

ok thanks for that!. yea i was worried the older x58 would cause speed issues via pcie3 down grading to pcie 2 16x. since resolve primary uses ram and gpu for processing.

I know this is kind of old but 2017? I really cant believe people still (even in 2017) think games and apps only use 4 cores lol. The xeon x5675 craps all over those CPUs you listed. How do i know? I own systems with most of the tech over the past few years and the 4 core stuff will bottleneck more than any Intel 6 core running over 3ghz. The x5675 runs my 1080ti and barely breaks a sweat. i have a 4690k that struggles with my 1080ti (it runs at almost 100% all of the time)  That 4 core turd that every told you to buy is slower than a 10 yr old xeon lmao
