Ryzen 6-core question

I can't find info about this specifically, so I'll ask for speculation here:

Ryzen has an ipc rate slightly higher than haswell/broadwell, right? Since a 5820k overclocks around 10-15% higher than ryzen and isn't held back by infinity fabric, in theory would it be faster for gaming?

I'm pretty sure that Ryzen is faster in "newer" games, but the key is fast ram, 3200mhz min

Ha no, just wondering how it compares. Am4 has nothing on 2011-3, but the cpus are a different story.

The ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x with 3000mhz or higher frequency RAM will outperform an i7 5820k on games... being so much more cheaper...

 

a 1600x at 4.1ghz all cores and 3k mhz RAM is as good as an i7 6700

Buy paying the extra for that little x you have your chances to severely increased, use an AsRock or Asus motherboard as their BIOS is better and you will have a good chance.... but yes... buying a h110m with 2133mhz ram and the i7 6700 is much simpler and safe and might even be cheaper.

AsRock and Asus have the best motherboards and BIOS for Ryzen right now, MSi has the worse.

Speaking of what you get for paying for that little X, instead of having to run close to 1.4v to achieve a 4.0 GHz overclock like many have to do with an R5-1600, my 1600X is Prime95 stable at 1.331v. According to HWMonitor and CPU-Z, it usually sits around 1.33v or 1.34v in the real world while running benches and tests.

 

I got really lucky with how low I can take that voltage. I could probably hit 4.1 GHz if I ran more voltage through it, but I'm really happy gaming at 50-60 C with an already-snazzy overclock.

 

In the past, when overclocking I'm always worried about the life of my chip since I never want to risk losing money, but that voltage is lower than the stock voltage my mobo wanted to run.

One nice thing about Ryzen is it seems to have minimum FPS. Obviously depends on the game
