but the 1050 will never run on a 220W psu, the 1030 might just barely

Why not?

I have an i7 6700k @ 4.4 Ghz, 2x 8gb DDR4 2666 Mhz, 2 HDDs, 2 SSDs, 2 Fans, and had a GTX 1060 MSI Gaming X last year.

Under gaming Load, my System drew 220w~ out of the Wall (minus PSU efficiency, Computer "used" like <200w~.

When i undervolted my GTX 1060 (i got it down to 85w Power consumption), the computer drew only 150-160w out of the Wall, that makes 140w~ Power consumption for the whole PC.

If that 220w PSU is somewhat decent and you don't overclock too much (slight undervolt for CPU + GPU), a GTX 1050 ti will work just fine.

A GTX 1050 ti consumes around 60w under full Load (the normal models. super high OC models like MSI Gaming X consume a bit more), you will probably get the 1050 ti easy to 40-50w under full Load with a good Undervolt.

If you WANT, you can make it work.

However.. most PSUs with low Watts (like 220w, 300w  etc) are not meant for Gaming, or high stress loads. they are solely for Office uses, where the Computer sits at 30-80 Watt. Browsing, office, Multimedia etc.

Totally irrelevant, because as I was saying in my previous post there is no pool of watts. You're drawing power from separate rails. If that 150W is mostly from one rail, congratulations, you're gradually destroying your power supply and components. And you have no idea. Because you don't know which rail is which.

That's just barely enough.  I calculate a 217W usage at most.  That's close enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

Nvidia recently released the GT 1030, a low end dedicated graphics card that only uses a maximum of 30W and takes power directly from the PCIe lane. Will this card work with a 220W psu? Nvidia recommends a 300W power supply but I'm wondering if its possible to run this card anyway. (link to gt 1030 specs from nvidia http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-1030/specifications )

Is 400 watts enough for gt 1030?

I have a 7600K @ 4.8GHz, a GTX 970, 2x8GB of RAM, an SSD, 2 HDDs, a 120mm AIO and a buttload of peripherals. Max power draw from the wall: 223W

PSU: 450W Corsair SFX but I've run it on a 280W before.

You'll be fine.

Daily Driver: Asus ROG Flow X13 - 5900HS/3050 Ti

Primary Desktop: NCase M1 - 5800X3D/RX 6950XT

Travel PC: Fractal Terra - 5800X/RTX 3060 Ti

I have too many computers. List here.

its better than intel HD 4600, and not many cards use little enough power and are small form factor to fit in the case and use the current power supply, its a struggle lol

I feel you man. I have a HP Elite SFF and I’ve been trying to find a Low Profile GPU for so long… was about to get a GTX 1050 but then the prices shot way up… I’m probably gonna get a 1030 too TBH.

Who needs fancy graphics and high resolutions when you can get a 60 FPS frame rate on iGPUs?
