It depends on the games you play. Some, like watch dogs 2, can see as much as 10% going from 2133 to 2933. Others, like gta v, see around 5%. Some others, like bf1, don't see any gains.

It really depends on the game. You really should look at the many benchmarks they have out there on the topic. In some games it actually quite significant in others it doesn't matter at all.

The fact that all the benchmarks differ from each other doesn't help rip

Is investing in higher speed memory worth it or is just one of those things that will only give a gamer like a few frames more?

You can always buy 2133/2400/2666MHz RAM and OC it to a higher speed, save cost

What about tasks like video rendering, in which is way more CPU bound than the games?

Don't think ram speed affects that much, but I could be wrong.

How does that even happen occur ._.

Because in rendering, processes don't need to switch cores, or get resources from the other CCX's L3 cache, or something like that, so higher infinity fabric speed isn't needed.

if you didn't know, the RAM speed isn't really what makes it faster. it's just that the infinity fabric in the CPU, which connects the two modules it's made of, is linked to RAM speed.

It does, because it speeds up the infinity fabric.

if it didn't do that, then it wouldn't be important.

Intel and AMD took two different fundamentals when they made their CPUs so it's weird seeing one work along the other.

Yep.

Just a shame that the thing that really improves Ryzen performance runs so poorly on Ryzen. (High RAM Clocks) -_-

Ik it does but I don't think the infinity fabric is bottlenecking anything in video editing.

Not in video editing.

In gaming it does.

I think we're both arguing the same thing

kms I'll just leave it on stock speed because I don't have that much time

I mean, it is worth it you got time and you want to do it. Overclocking RAM especially on Ryzen is a lot less difficult than on Intel because on Ryzen you can fiddle with just the primary timings, voltage and speed, while on Intel you also have secondary and tercial timings.

Testing for stability is the most time consuming part though. Unlike on CPU you need to be sure for RAM to not cause any issues 100% of the time.

What speed do you think I should aim for without having too many issues?

It really depends. You will have no trouble doubling the speed if you loose timings quite a bit but that will hurt the performance, you need to find good speed with low enough timings.

On DDR4 the 2933MHz should be achievable with good enough timings on most 2400MHz kits.

For reference, my totally not fit for overclocking DDR3 can go to 2200MHz from 1600MHz with good enough timings.
