XFX RX470 fans slow to spin up.

RS2007GOD

Hi so i have a issue where the fans on my card are very slow to ramp up.

whats happening is im start the game/benchmark and the gpu is getting very hot 85+ degrees whilst the fans are slowly ramping up. by slowly i mean they just seem to chug along at like a preset pace. after about maybe 2-3 minute they are at the proper speed and temps start to drop, then they do the exact same thing when the benchmark ends very slow to drop even though the core reaches 40c quickly.

ive tried custom fan curves with wattman and that makes no difference. the only way to get the max fanspeed instantly is to set a minimum fanspeed off 3800 or what ever speed i want them to run at which is inconvientent.

is this normal for an amd gpu? it feels like this was some kind of built in thing to make my card burnout faster..

Maybe new driver issues try and older driver and see if it does that again

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

in my MB Bios, I can control all fan speeds. so, if that doesn't work, just simply ramp up the fan speed. however, it's most likely that it's your drivers. you can adjust fan speed in EVGA Precision X, but I like to use older versions of the software.

Ok

older drivers didnt work :(

my mb is old and does not have that feature for pwm or v control. i know i can use any other software to manual set a speed, for example afterburner works too but the problem remains that i either have to set a predefined speed EVERY time im going to play a game then turn it off afterwords or the fans ramp up slowly. could it be a fault it the card or maybe a bad bios?

anyone else have a xfx rx470 rs?

I would contact XFX and see if they might have a solution.

That doesn't seem right IMO, ramping up shouldn't take minutes, at most this should take 10-15 seconds.

And speeds slow down should be almost instant.

yea ok think ill do that. speeds rise at around 20 rpm per second regardless of how hot the card gets. if i try change the fans speed at all whiles its ramping up it instantly drops to 0 rpm and starts the slow ramp up again :S

Though risky, updating / reflashing the GPU bios might solve the problem.

figured out atleast a solution for the issue of it getting to hot for now. i set the threshold to come on at 70c then minimum speed to 2500 then it slowly ramps up from there..  so weird i dont think its a physical problem with the card or else it wouldnt be able to do that. it goes from 0-2500 instantly but 2500-3800 slowly and back to 2500 slowly then to 0 instantly

I have the 480 version. Its normal. The card ramps up slowly to try and make it smooth. It also slows down slowly to cool the card properly. Its all entirely normal for this card.

thank you very much! i will just stick with my way of solving this problem then as with the card very heavily overclocked id rather not let it get so hot
