Hi All,

I recently got a used DL160 G6 duel Xeon Hexcore server, but i have ran out of HHD space and i am needing to change the case so i can put afew more drives in. I Have looked at the case linked below:

"http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Logic-Case-SC-415A-4U-Standard-Chassis-10-x-3-5inch-HDD-1-x-2-5inch-HDD-SSD-/112312302715?hash=item1a2655bc7b%3Ag%3APgwAAOSw3utY73gA" but i am unsure whether the Motherboard would fit in the case and how i would actually power the board with a different power supply. I have been searching the net for about 2 hours and i cannot find any useful information. So what i really need to know is that if i get this case would i actually be able to fit the MB in their and how would i power the board? could i use a standard ATX PSU or not.   Please bare in mind that my budget is low as i would need to buy some drives aswell.

Thanks

You will need to keep the server in its case, as the motherboard and other parts are proprietary form factors.

You can though get an external storage array like the Lenovo SA120

My native language is C++

Should of posted this sooner, could of saved myself 2 hours. Thought that would probably be the case as it is HP after all. Looked at something similar to that but the cost is way to high for what i have available and what i can really justify. Thanks for the response.

mixing dell and HP is gonna be funky, but in theory it should hook up to a SAS card just fine.

Was just looking at a NetAPP version of this, but don't really understand how i would link that to my existing server. Would it work like a NAS or would it need a SFP cable or something similar ?

you'd get a SAS controller to slap into one of the pcie slots in your server, and hook it up with a cable.

its a das, so you plug it in with sas. Think of it as a external hdd.

A really big external HDD with a much more awesome connector :).

Also just for information sake all those external disk shelves that don't have controllers (no smarts) don't care what they get plugged in to, for the proper storage arrays like Netapp E-Series/IBM DS3500 etc they are all LSI re-brands right down to the software so again they don't care what they get plugged in to.
