Yes my mobo was faulty. Ill rma it. *Solved*

Note, I basicly just wanna know if this is reason enough to rma it so i can change mobo.

So i just wanna make sure the mobo is faulty before i rma it just incase im missing out on something... like maybe its the cpu or something cos i donno how them things here work :3
Also i changed all other parts of the pc so im 100% sure its either mobo or cpu

CPU = 5820k

Heres all the things that seem weird:
(btw the qcode doesnt tell me anything when pc wont turn on)

1. (The most important feature i need is pcie slot 4) The red pcie slots number 3 and 4 doesnt seem to work, just black screen forever no matter how many times i restart or reseat and try again.

2. it seems to not be able to remember that i want my fan curve to the lowest speed, also the apply button has disapeared lately.

3. I must go into the bios upon turning on the pc to manualy choose the drive to boot into because it wont remember which drive i set as default.

4. Sometimes when i turn the on button it bootloops a few times before managing to get anything on screen.
And sometimes it simply wont turn on unless i restart the pc up to 10 times. (just black screen. sometimes might bootloop eternaly)

5. If i click to restart windows or go sleep mode it will just go into the same problem above (eternal blackscreen or bootlooping but never working)

.... pretty sure there were a few more but i forgot... ill add them if i remember

This is what I would do before RMA'ing the board. I have the Asus Rampage V Edition 10, the successor to the Rampage V Extreme, so everything below should be the same.

• Set all settings to default (F5), then go into Boot under Advanced setup, and change the Hard Drive BBS Priorities to the boot device you have installed in your computer as the FIRST device it'll try to boot to.
• If that doesn't work, you may need to flash the latest version of the BIOS for the Rampage V Extreme. The board also has a second BIOS chip, so try that out.
• What are your expansion devices you installed?

idk what expansion devices you mean

But alright ill do the f5 thing in a moment.

also this bios flashing thing sounds highly complicated and im not that kinda guy atm lol.

also i rather just know if this is reason enough for me to rma it cos i just wanna upgrade to ur board and sell a new one of this or upgrade with the rma

It can't damage the board, it might just render it unoperable until it's flashed properly.

That means taking the UEFI/BIOS version from their website, putting it onto a storage medium (preferably USB), and going into the BIOS and using the EZ Flash utility under Tool in Advanced Setup, and flashing the BIOS file. You have to name it to R5E.CAP is in the manual.

 

For my motherboard (The Rampage V Edition 10), it has to be renamed to R5E10.CAP for the BIOS to be flashed onto.

Flashing BIOS is as simple as it gets. Don't get scarred by all the bullshi*t on the web. Especially on mobos with BIOS flashback feature since even if the power does go out during flashing you can fix it anyway.

only got my 980ti in it atm. have tried multiple gpu's and only first 2 red slots work.

Yeah during the flashing process, you have to leave the computer on during the flash, otherwise it will corrupt the BIOS, rendering one BIOS chip inoperable.

Try installing only the GTX 980 Ti into those slots and see if they are dead.

thats what i did. only plug in whatever is necessary for the pc to work properly and have the gpu in red slot 3 and 4. it dun work

Have you made sure that the PCI-E DIP switches are all slid over to the left?

yes i have made sure those are on. i even switched them off and on multiple times just incase they were stuck or something
