4790k to ryzen 1600 results

So I made the switch after my 4790k died

and I was kinda worried that it would be lacking in gaming

boy was I wrong

at 1440p 144hz with sli 980tis I am getting the exact same fps in gaming

but the amazing thing is it's so much smoother

a hell of a lot smoother

frame drops are none existent

camera movement is rediculasly smooth

100 percent not a placebo effect

absolutely atonashing

I can't explain it I though it couldn't get any better than the i7 for gaming but this beast has proven me wrong

curently running at 4ghz at 1.437v(1.414 under full load for some reason)

ram at 2933mhz cas15

thanks to a lot of help from @tom_w141

@App4that it smashes the 4790k out of the park

AMD (and proud) r7 1700 4ghz-

also (1600)

asus rog crosshairs vi hero x370-

MSI 980ti G6 1506mhz slix2 -

Ryzen is still behind in gaming but in 1080p only in 1440p and 4k no difference. I'm not fanboy of Intel nor AMD.

what ram did you get in the end?

And ye, I was surprised by the 1700, however my benchmarks were down, but the ram was running 2133mhz

it is down in 1440P if the ram is slow, I did a full set of before and after benchmarks in my ryzen build log

I prefer Ryzen too just a bit behind in gaming(1080p only) but crushes its competition in other tasks.

Agreed with that. Ryzen has a huge performance difference when changed ram speed due to its Infinity fabric(I know that everyone knows this).

Ye unfortunately CAS 14 3200mhz GSkill RGB in the UK is £204 vs CAS 16 3200mhz for £153, I wasn't paying + 33% for CAS 14, ill just wait for further bios improvements

voltage droop. increase LLC (Load Line Calibration) a little to get the VRMs to push a bit more voltage when the CPU ramps up.

Wow that is very interesting!  I've been hesitating due to Ryzen's relatively low average FPS compared to 7700k.  Do you think the 1800X would be worth the extra money?

and because the 1600 was the same for gaming performance so I'd rather have a better board as ryzen will be around for a while and upgrade to the end of line chip in 2020

Honestly the smoothness in gaming compared to top line fps far out ways the higher fps

highest I would go is the 1700 and oc it to math a 1800x performance as they all oc pretty much the same :)

I've heard this a few times, but I just don't see that in the test results.  Wouldn't the 1% low and 0.1% low show the smoothness people talk about?  I don't know what to think.

Tom's Hardware shows a lot of detail in their graphs.  Frame time variance on Ryzen 1600x was mostly worse than the i5 7600k in their testing.

exactly. XFR is the only reason to get a X SKU Ryzen, and that's only 100MHz for a very brief moment with super skookum cooling present.
