Upgrade or pass?

Gmanliving

Currently running on a 1070 SC and 6700.

I can upgrade to a 1080 FTW + 6700K for 50 USD.

If i spend 200 I can get a 1080 ti. I have a 1440p 60hz monitor and two 1080p 144hz monitors.

Or don't upgrade anything and buy more games!!!!

Do it or don't?

A

Edit: If and when I upgrade to the 6700K, I would have to run on the stock cooler of my 6700 for 1 month, until a Cryorig H7 or Kraken X62 arrives. FYI: I DO NOT PLAN TO OC!

1080FTW and 6700K for extra $50 is excellent.

Still the same, the 6700K runs better anyway and even if it was only an upgrade from the 1070 to the 1080 it would still be worth it... I would take that deal all day :)

I would go for the upgrade, as long as you are enjoying what you are playing. Honestly I don't think we will see to much till summer hits.

Honestly I wouldn't upgrade anything... although if your cost would only be 50$ then yeah why the hell not.

But moving on, I have somewhat similar stuff as you do, I have a locked i7 7700 paired with the Maxwell TITAN X on a 2560x1080p80hz monitor, what I plan on doing is keep saving money all this year long to upgrade only when Volta hits the market as it will have actually powerful enough SINGLE GPU solutions to drive ultrawide 1440p the way I desire, therefore I am waiting all the way till then to upgrade both GPU and Monitor.

I already had my i7 7700 paired with a Titan X Pascal and no bottlenecks there, I really think that for a high end gaming exclusive rig the locked i7 will give pretty much the same performance of the unlocked i7 with differences that can be overlooked while you still get to save a lot of money going with h110m/b250 motherboards and stock cooling.

Do you use the stock Intel cooler or have you upgraded?

Stock because it honestly isn't all that loudy (even if it were I don't really care) and this is just a 65w TDP processor for crying out loud, I can put it on max load It never got beyond 72Cº even on the hottest days and this chip by theory can work on 90Cº without damaging it on the long run.

I honestly think that aside aesthetic purposes there will never be a true reason to go aftermarket cooling on a locked CPU.
