- multi platform (even for mobile phones)

 

Users should use (popular) open source solutions for everything encryption related. By doing that you don't need to trust just one entity that it is safe and secure but instead you have countless people who can see for sure that it is safe.

Yes, but you can just use a very strong master password and keep the file stored in a cloud drive that requires 2FA. I'd be more worried about how a password stored in KeePass gets transfered to a text field. Don't copy your passwords to the clipboard if you can help it. For Android, Keepass2Android allows you to fill in passwords without typing or copying them to the clipboard. For desktop OSs, there are extensions for Chrome and Firefox that let you autofill passwords.

It's definitely not the most convenient password manager, but it's free, secure, cross platform and trustworthy.

"grapecar39" can be cracked in a day. If your password is similar to that, you should consider using a longer password with a variety of types of words.

I read that XKCD some time ago, along with other password-related advice, but that's what I don't get: how can a password composed of random words, but still searchable through a dictionary can be more secure than a random chain with special characters? Wouldn't password hackers just need to rewrite an algorithm to search for words separated by spaces?

Yes, but as I understand it, when enough people realize that they can use this new approach (and have passwords simple enough for them to remember, yet presumably more secure), hackers will just have to create another easy algorithm to crack them.
This approach is secure right now because not many people know about it/have applied it (and the current algorithms don't look for that), but when enough people will, it will became wildly insecure, right?

I personally use LastPass, it's been working great for the past 2 years, and the security audit is a great feature and makes keeping my passwords secure really easy. The only real downside is to use the mobile apps you need the pro version, but for like $12 a year, I found it worth the investment after using it for a year.

It's KeePassX that hasn't been getting much development. KeePass 2 is still fine. The difference is KeePass 2 uses .Net and supports installing all the plugins while KeePassX and KeePassXC use Qt and don't support installing plugins, but KeePassXC did add the KeePassHttp plugin. For anyone wondering why people would use KeePassX or XC, they look much nicer on Linux than KeePass 2 and they're faster (faster startup and more responsive GUI), so if you don't need any features beyond what XC offers, it's a good choice.
