i was booting my motherboard up for the first time and i think i killed it because i stopped it as it was checking everything. Am i right or what can i do to reset this

 i have hit the clear cmos button a bunch of times and also put it on the box and still same affect. The motherboard in question is the MSI mpower z87 motherboard with an i5 4670k. pleas help first ever build

Turning your computer off while it boots shouldn't kill anything. What happens when you press the start button?

If it does nothing, try doing a hard CMOS reset. Pull the PC power cord out of the wall or PSU and remove the CMOS battery. Then hold the power button for a couple of seconds.

Go down to minimum hard ware plugged in then try (meaning no GPU, 1 RAM stick, no drives). Let us know what happens. It is very unlikely the motherboard unless you did something since the MPower's are put through a 24hr burn in at the factory.

Take the actual battery out.

You can't kill a board by turning off, only when flashing your CMOS. Disconnect everything, take the CMOS battery out, wait a min and plug everything back in, ensure RAM and all power cables are properly inserted and if necessary check if your PSU is functional using a paperclip (you didn't say what wasn't working.)

i have tried everthing but the one stick of ram i will see if that works, hope it does

it was frist boot but then nothing, i press the surface mounted power button and all the led come on for a second and then it all goes dark, the psu was a cheap 50 dollar psu that was going to get upgrade any way

also i am ruining no gpu at the moment, relying on the internal gpu from the i5 untill i get payed next week

Have you plugged both power cables on board. The 24-pin and addittional 6/8-pin?

so i tried every thing you guys suggested and still no luck and to respond i am using corsair RM 650

Does anything happen when you press the power button? For example: the cpu cooler fan spin? LED's on the board lighting up? Etc...

check all the cables and do as sugested with minimum hardware connected.

Test everything barebones. Only necessary stuff. No boot drives or anything. And put it on some cardboard box to prevent shorts.
