Laptop for collage

Hello, I'm looking for a new laptop for college. My area of study is going to be computer science but I am a video editor for the television channel of my school. I usually edit at 720p on the laptop. I have a home computer where I edit mainly but sometimes I get to edit things in school. I currently have an acer cloudbook that is obviously a problem editing on it. My budget is around 500 to 800 $. I need it to be small and light. Also, since I'm going to use it for college, I need a good battery.

Another thing I plan to do is use the steam in-home stream to play games.

What recommendations can you give me? Thank you in advance.

Frankly, you're looking for unobtainium. A small and light for 500-800 with the abilities to run video editing and a good battery. Aren't we all looking for that, haha? 

Seriously though, you might want to consider a desktop for your price point, or a larger price point for your requirements. Maybe used if you replaced the battery on a last gen model?

There are plenty of things like that out on the market, ebay and dell outlet have the best of last gen for cheap.

i expect this is a slightly unpopular opinion here, but have you considered something like a used Razer Blade

2014-2015 models are around 800 dollars and offer great screens, fantastic keyboards, and excellent internals

Oh yeah, razer has such bad quality control that things like that happen to many of their customers, yet they still buy it.

Looking at title, I say some buckets of paint, some computer parts, and a giant white wall will be your best option.

I would suggest buying an older thinkpad or macbook. Either refurbished or used should be fine as long as you know it won't blow up on you. I'm a CS major up at Michigan Tech and macbooks are nice for programming because UNIX while thinkpads have nice build quality and battery life. I personally run a cheap generic lenovo laptop (not sure what model) with linux mint which can handle most things I need for school. Also keep in mind that your school might have hardware capable of video editing. I know we have a lot of resources available for things like that.
