(Kinda big) issue with the cooling for my UX302LA.

Go to solution Solved by Mr.Meerkat,

If you guys care, I've fixed it!

65C max temp under 100% sustained load :D (it was going up to 95C yesterday while the 2 "mounts" were broken)

ALL HAIL OUR LORD, OUR SAVIOR, (two part) EPOXY!

But yeah, applying epoxy to em yesterday and leaving them to dry for 20 hours~ seems to have done the trick :)

So basically I have recently just bought myself a second hand Asus UX302LA. It was running a bit loud (but temps were in check) so as an enthusiast, I decided to replace the TIM with MX4.

When I opened up my laptop to change the TIM, I noticed how 2 of the 4 mounts for the CPU contact plate has been sheered off the motherboard...

The bad thing is both mounts that have come off is on one side so it's actually affecting cooling. If I load up a youtube video, the difference between me forcing full contact and just allowing it to sit naturally is whether the fan is on or not (which is actually quite loud). It looks like it was soldered on so would it just be as easy as me adding some new solder to the two mounts/nuts?

Any ideas?

edit: Probably should say how it's actually not overheating without those 2 fasteners but it is louder without em...a lot louder :/

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

With the paste changed anyway, it's actually running 10C cooler and slightly quieter but still, I'd like it actually running passively rather than always having the fan on :/

The guy/girl you bought it from doesn't he have the receipt? Or have you broken the warranty by opening it?

That no longer matters, it's out of warranty anyway :P

I've not broken any seals but I don't feel like asking for a refund as this is the second time I've opened it up already where its possible I may have done something wrong.

Give it a try, such a big company as Asus have fooled so many people (Have you see Linus newest video about Warranty) that if you can get a refund do it. (Not hating on Asus love the company)

1. I bought it second hand

2. Its warranty should have expired last year :P

True, but that mx4 will be dried up in 6 months with that heatsink design.

And I would have replaced it within the next month or so...once I find a fix to get the mounting nuts to go back into place xD
