Get an old flash drive and write "1TB" on it?

You can flash the drive's controller and firmware. Don't ask anyone of us how.

Pff. That's no fun. What you really want to do is turn single layer 4.5GB DVD-R's into 8TB DVD-R discs. Now that's fun. :D
