My Gaming Rig Dilemma

Javed shamim

This is my Flight Simulator Gaming Rig.

I also play every other game on this Ofcourse.

I'm currently running :

NZXT Phantom 820 matte black

Asus ROG Maximus V Formula

Core i7-3770k OC to 4.5Ghz

Corsair H100i

Gskill Trident X 16gb (2400mhz)

2x GTX 480

Antec Truepower 1200W Psu

1TB HDD

This next part may get confusing so I apologise in advance but il try my best.

So basically I need to upgrade my graphic cards.

I'm using one gtx480 through a matrox triple head2go to run the

3 primary (eye level) monitors and the top monitor.

The other gtx480 is running the front left monitor and touchscreen on the far right.

Now I don't know what gpu to buy, I'm tossing up between the

Asus GTX 770 or Asus GTX 780.

So my plan was to get one gtx 780 to run matrox and top monitor,

And a cheap gtx 650 or something to run the other two.

OR

I'm not sure if this is even possible.

Use 2 gtx 770 in SLi to run matrox and top monitor

And a gtx 650 for the other 2 monitors. Again I don't think I can

Do this.

That's what I'm thinking but ANY suggestions will help

And if there's any ideas on how to run this without the matrox

That would be great too.

Thanks in advance

With a 660? and up at least you don't need a matrox thingy to run 3+1 monitors :)

Thanks guys for the quick reply. I hope the thumbnail is visable so it makes

More sense. Yes I turned down AMD because I want to use shadow play .

I wanted to run all 6 off 3 gtx 770's but the games themselves wouldn't

Allow me to set the resolution to 3840 x 1024.

The matrox allow me to hit that resolution so that why I'm using it.

Get a 780, but this is one weird build...

That ram is too much. For gaming, you only ever need 8GB at 1600MHz.

That PSU is also overkill. You'd be fine with a 600 watt PSU, but should you get another GPU, you might be cutting it a bit close.

Also, if you don't have an SSD, get one.

It's not that weird lol.

And yes 16Gb and 1200w is overkill but I had a 650w Psu but I encountered

Random crashes so I thought more is better than less AND it was on sale lol

Yes I will go will an SSD once a 2TB one becomes cheaper.

There is something like shadowplay also for AMD .. i dont know the exact name of it but it is something from MSI, it should be in beta right now try to look it up. I think that R9 290 or two are best option for this.

SLI & CFX scale incredibly poorly with FSX, and AMD/ATI currently don't and have said they won't support the cloud textures natively so you will experience huge frame drops in weather if you use AMD. I would say stick with a single nVidia card for FSX, but for those extra monitors you will need a second card.

This FAQ seems to suggest that you can mix cards for extra monitors:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/sli/faq#s3

If you scroll down, techradar indicate you could even mix and match amd/nvidia cards for extra displays so I'm sure the mix of Nvidia cards would work too:

Yeh thanks for that. I know fsx is crap with SLi and multicore

Utilisation. Its a very CPU heavy game and doesnt use much

Gpu power. It's a shame that they havnt made a new patch for it.

Yeh im leaning towards gtx 780 and a gtx 650.

Will eyeinfinity be better in this situation ?

Thanks for that. I've always been an nvidia man but it seems AMD is

More suited to my needs. A capture card sounds good although I've never owned one.

I thought of using fraps or something for BF4. I heard it CPU heavy.

il look into experience predator.
