The q6600 can squeeze all of the 550ti juice out, it will play fairly well games from 2011 and before, don't expect much on 2012 and on titles though.... talking about the more demanding ones; AA and AAA obviously.

TF2 and SoT will be just fine... GTA will struggle very hard, maybe 768p low?

The 550ti is the weak link here. Not sure about GTA V but the rest should be fine on low-med.

GTA V is pretty CPU heavy too, I had a 4.4GHz 8320 that bottlenecked a 270x at 1080p.

Before I switched to Haswell, I had a Q9400 and the performance were on par with a i3-4170 ;)

Yeah that's a good idea, the 1050Ti would be a good pairing, unless you want to try a 470.

I would put RX 470 so you don't have any bottlenecks

Yeah you're fine there :P When I upgraded from FX, I only got a couple extra frames, but it was way more consistent, no stuttering and lagging.

when i upgraded from i5 760 (same gpu, went from 3ghz i5 to 4.4ghz i7)

i went from playing on medium to high.

stuttering at 55fps? constant 65+ fps

Yup pretty much. 4.4GHz FX to a 3.9GHz Sandy Bridge, and I went from stuttering 45fps to 50fps butter smooth, then got a 470 and I'm 60 smooth at WFHD.

You'd be looking at 720p medium/high to 1080p low.

It's not dying. It's dead. Hell, a Q6600 can barely let a GTX 580 stretch its legs. :/
