Which GPU?

I am looking to purchase a GPU within the next few hours for a new build. I am trying to decide between a GTX 1080 and a GTX 1080Ti. Price is a non-factor as long as it's below $800 (USD). Give me your best argument for which GPU I should get. It will be used for gaming on a 4K ultra-wide, photo editing, and general multi purpose use.

1080Ti is best for 4K because the 1080 doesn't get 60FPS on demanding titles, even with settings turned down a bit.

in the future, and for games released this year, a 1080 will most likely not hit 60FPS at 4K

There is no such thing as ultra wide 4k, it is ultra wide 1440p, and obviously you'll want the 1080ti so you can play AAA comfortably at such high resolution... the 1080 will restrain how far you can go on quality to keep acceptable fps.

 

In fact just so you have an idea the only reason I haven't yet bought an Asus ROG 1440p ultrawide is because I felt Pascal even with the 1080ti is not entirely ready for the resolution in a single GPU setup... waiting for Volta to upgrade monitor and GPU now.

There is ultra wide 4K. It is 5120 by 3840.

GTX 1080TI seeing as it will outpreform the 1080 in every task. why not get the most preformance you can? :) 

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

If by any chance that's what OP actually had in mind, he'd need 2way sli 1080ti :P

This is as far as I could find, honestly actual 4k ultrawides are not a commercial thing yet, OP just had a typo.
