Well there are a few things to note here:

  1. Most of the games that he tested are multithreaded
  2. His GTA V results are weird

Anyway, I am looking forward to the Hardware Unboxed video. Their benchmarks are very reliable and their video will be uploaded next week :D

Exactly you said we don't know how ccx will hurt it in multithreaded apps and games

Idk his benchmarks are a bit weird (especially GTA V and Battlefield 1) this is why I am going to wait for the Hardware Unboxed video before I make up my mind....

(They remind me a lot of Joker's Results, which were way too low for the 7700K and way too high for Ryzen...)

I actually made a post on Jayz2cents 1800X revisited asking if he could do a test with high speed ram. Seems a lot of reviewers (and cosumers alike) are having major problems gettings Ryzen to run above 3000mhz, which according to these videos, is where it starts to shine

equal gaming + much more power for other things

at best better gaming + above with updates etc

Ill add another 16gb ram later

Im planning to go Ryzen as well, still using 3770k Oc to 4.6 stable about 5 year. Just upgrade my GPU to 1080 with 1440p monitor. So thinking its might be the time to upgrade the rest . How much fps i can squeeze out from there. Looking for benchmark comparing those 2 but nothing much.

probably about the same in gaming. I'm actually thinking twice now, purely based on the boards that are available, the z270 range is much wider, either way I need new CPU, board and ram and I'm gonna change from my trusty red/black/heavy white them to blue and white

ill run some in builts later today. It will probably be a couple of days before I get a Ryzen rig up and running. I want to swap my red coolant to blue, so that will take a few hours of flushing and block cleaning. I also need to resleeve most of my PSU cables as theyre currently red, black and white and I'm gonna change em to silver, blue and white + a quick backplate transfer swap

currently using a Palit Gamerock Premium 1080 GTX (pretty much the fastest 1080 out of the box)

nah, ive seen it working in other builds though (hence why I went for the gigabyte board) , ill probably just have to run 3000mhz and loose timings until they fix the bios - I aint paying +33% for tighter timings, that is insane

It seems Cannon Lake (not Coffee Lake) will bring 6c/12t to the mainstream, a flagship i7 with the latest IPC and lithography with actually 6 cores and hyper-threading? I think that will be the best gaming CPU when it does release.

Now I know this is only happening next year and waiting will be quite long but your CPU can still survive till then, picture this, somewhat what I'll do, the current 14nm Intel processors already gave all they could give, time to go 10nm [:

Ryzen is great for workstation, editing and rendering and all is smooth and fast on it but I really don't think it is a game processor despite gaming fine with it, it's single thread and IPC is just not that strong to justify with the better multi-threading games to go with it in my opinion, not when gaming is your main thing.

If you want to be future proof then, the best thing is actually keep saving money, save all the way until Canon Lake release and make a neat GTX 2080 Volta + i7 9700k (or whatever called).

Building high end is my only hobby and I do plan on making a Canon Lake 6c/12t + Titan X Volta build when times comes, being saving for it already, honestly believe it'll be the highest end gaming rig available when it exists :P

Valid point @Princess Cadence But as I said in my first post it was the value of my current gear that drove this decision, whilst I do appreciate you are right

Anyway will I'll be good to get back on an AMD build, as an enthusiast I get the best for my money, the last time AMD did that was Athlon 64 months my last one been an X2, I've been strictly i7 since then in 860, 3770K and 4790K flavours
