Building an entirely new system, any ideas?

orbis

I'm building a new computer soon, and I've not been following any recent developments in hardware.

I'd like for this to be able to run games like Overwatch well, while being able to have some other programs (skype, spotify, steam) run in the background without frame drops.

My current build idea is this, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XvVqVY , and I was wondering if there were any improvements you guys could think of. Thanks!

quick edit: noise is an issue too, my current build is very very loud, is this current list somewhat quiet?

id go for a 1060 if you can, and when you built it make sure you connect everything properly

The main thing I would change with this build is the video card, the blower style fan will be loud if it needs to ramp up to cool the card.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I had considered that, but my issue with my build has been the very loud, high pitched fan on the FX-4350. Typically, video card noise isn't as obnoxious IMO.

While this is "nice", if you have the extra money and want more cores and threads for productivity go with the AMD.

If all you do is game, no video editing / 3D rendering, then the Intel is cheaper and will probably out perform the AMD for games as core clock will overclock higher.

btw you also need a cooler in order to oc the 1700

get an aio like corsair H115i 280 mm

I'm not really interested in OCing, so that's not a problem for me. Thanks, though.

Yeah, I make youtube videos occasionally so I do like having the extra cores.

but OC'n AMD is pointless.... I haven't seen a single post of someone getting even an 1800X over 4.0GHz stable...

but to the OP, if you're worried about overclocking cause you don't want to break stuff....

Overclocking has gotten relatively simple over the past few years, look on youtube for "overclocking my processor" for like 10mins and you'll see how easy it has become.

I've looked into it before, it's just not something I'm too interested in. I might look into it if I were to need it, but just not sure.

To OP,

Well, then my 1st comment is my final comment.

I'd find a different video card, that is non-blower style fan, as those get loud as hell, maybe not as loud as they used to but a non-blower style will be much quieter.

Other than that, the system you picked should suit your needs well.

Thanks, and I will check out a dif video card, or maybe look into water cooling, still deciding on that.

I had an AIO a while back, but then I bought a $700 Video card.. ( 980Ti back before 10 series was even out ) ....

I quickly took the AIO out...

If you're NOT overclocking, run on air, less hassle that way.

There's no reason to water cool if you're not overclocking, the only thing you're doing is wasting money and giving more room for failure.

470 / 480 shouldn't really need water cooling, it won't be loud if it's not a blower style fan.
