So today I was working on remodeling my kitchen and bending pipes (before you ask, yes I'm doing it myself because I'm too cheap to pay a contractor) and I had a weird idea....

What if I could take the solid watercooling tubes concept I've seen on some mods and take it to another level? Would it be feasible to have solid cables? like actually have like a 1/16in solid copper rod, paint it with an isolator kinda like magnet wire, and route it directly to the PSU.

Not just for the novelty aspect of it but because I think the 24-pin cable deserves some love. We always hide the 24-pin cable behind the motherboard tray, but I wanna do a 180 and have it showing prominently like it deserves. It is after all the main lifeline of our PCs. It could potentially help with PSU efficiency as well since a thicker conductor means less resistance.

What do you guys think? Am I nuts? Can this actually be done? And if so, do you think it'd look cool?

The resistance is negligible, like a fraction of a watt.

This has been done before, lemme search for the images with my google-fu.

I tried looking for it for a good 20-30 min and couldn't find anything, so I figured either it hasn't been done or someone did it but didn't post it anywhere.

I have seen it, but I'm having trouble finding the pics.

Will take me a few mins...

On 12 volt sure, but NEVER use it for high voltage (>30 volts).

Also the you only get an optical benefit, the loss in cabel is very low.

yeah of course I know that, especially with the high amps that a PSU pushes out.

That's not exactly what I had in mind but close enough. I wanted to do it in an m-ITX build with the mobo sitting parallel to the PSU and if I could find a mobo with an angled 24-pin socket even better. And I wouldn't paint the copper with color, just with a clear coat to prevent any short-circuits. And then have the rest of the build go along with that copper theme.

something like this: 6ea3c830801c15af1179e824b54a7a4e.jpg

Copper and matte black look so sick imo
