insanely good single-core performance, hyperthreading, good OC performance and easily hits 5Ghz with a good cooling solution.

It is at the moment the best CPU you can get for PC that is mainly focused on gaming.

7700k or the 7700 if you don't  want to OC but never the i5.

Everything that I've seen shows the 7700K to be without any appreciable overclocking headroom. Even with an OC of 5.1 Ghz, you'll be lucky to find an application where it makes a noticeable difference. I would say that the 7700K is one of the worst overclocking CPUs, ever.

I think there's no point to overclocking a 7700K, because it's already clocked at its practical ceiling, right out of the box. Overclocking is just going to make it use more power and generate more heat while delivering virtually unchanged performance.
