Simple enough. 1070, 1080, or 1080ti?

Depends on the game and cpu, nothing is simple

Depends if you want to be able to max games out. If you are ok with high settings, a 1070/1080 is fine, but the 1080ti is the best card for this.

I feel like for the games I play, and because I usually have lower settings for higher FPS, I would be wasting money on a TI instead of a 1080. But I mean, Ig I can max out with a 1080TI

Going to be getting an 1800X, and I will be mainly playing shooters like BF1, Overwatch, CS:GO, Gmod, etc

A 1080-1080ti. Though if yoy are fine downgrading settings on bf1 then a 1070 would do all games nicely

I think (I haven't double-checked) my overclocked GTX 1070 is running Bf1 in 1440p, with all settings maxed, except with resolution scale kept at 100%, and is getting a constant 60 FPS. If I bump resolution scale up to 115%, though, there are places in some maps where FPS will dip below 60 FPS.

But for higher FPS in Bf1, with settings maxed, they'll need more than a 1070.

Yeah. That's why I said downgrading settings to reach closer to 144 because I know BF1 won't run that smooth with a 1070 at 1440p. OW and CSGo/gmod is a piece of cake though

Well it does depend on the game you play, obviously older or less intensive games wont have an issue (esport titles), but newer games will have more of a problem reaching a full 144fps. I would try to avoid Zen as it isnt very good for gaming (Unless you really need the cores for rendering), 7700k is better for this.

Yea, I plan on having a couple dozen chrome tabs + 2 different chrome users as well as Geometry Dash playing in the background while waiting for CS lobbies. I honestly think I will benefit from more cores

So within my price range, a 1080 would be fine

As long as you are ok with slightly less fps in games you should be fine. But don't expect to be able to reach 144 fps in some of the more demanding games without at least doing some tweaking.

- Average 100FPS BF1 maxed out 64er Server in 1440p. So much for that...

Some games yes.

You can run a 1080ti at 1440p on lower CPU like the 4770k 6700k etc just fine. However if you want to get Max FPS then yea 7700k is best but still in some games your not going to hit anywhere near 144FPS

Its not a bottleneck for 60-100hz gaming but some CPU intensive games won't hit the mark. there's no reason not to use a 4790-6700k since they're basically all the same.

My average is higher than 60 FPS, too (probably around 80 FPS). But if I increase the resolution scale, it isn't a constant 60 FPS. You also have a 6700K, which could be helping you out a bit beyond my 2600K @ 4.6 Ghz. Still, if OP is aiming for 144hz gaming, a 1070 isn't going to do it.

I have an overclocked to hell GTX 1070 strix and I find it quite hard to maintain over 144 fps @ 1440p unless i turn settings down to medium in most intensive games. Overwatch can do it on medium/high with tweaking, and I run CS @ 4:3 1440 by 1080  which gets the max 300 fps on the highest settings. BF1, I'm not sure, but I can check if you want. If you are only going to be playing CS and Overwatch, the 1070 will be just fine (for now), I even have a friend who has a rx480 and does this, but I would personally try to go for a 1080.
