So I want to make a dedicated gaming server, hosting  multiple gaming servers at once. The game I want to host is minecraft, and I know minecraft is very RAM dependent. I want to build a server, rack-mounted on a server rack and able to handle a lot of player traffic. I have all of the software ready for the server (minus the OS) and I just need to find out what hardware to use. Can you people help me out?

ryzen 1700 8 core cpu

16gb minimum 32gb ideal 64 gb for large scale server

a good 750watt psu

gpu i would say a 1060 or 480 can handle it but a 1080ti for large scale.

if you are looking for old cheap rack server for minecraft , look in ebay xeon servers.

No wait, we need to see what servers he wants to host, you can't jump to the point right away.

if you have to ask, this is not for you. seriously.

you DONT want to host this crap at home, and you have to be very aware of the fact that as more people happen, more assholes happen.

DDos is happening all the time on Minecraft.

"it is a fucking plague like you wouldnt believe" is probably a better way of putting it. along with people logging on to try and mess with your map, hackers because some people have no life, .. the list doesnt end.

my usual recommendation remains: if you have to ask, dont.

How is this server connected to the internet? Most residential ISP's dont allow servers on some networks. So are you paying for some kinda of Business Class Service?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

That's so incredibly wrong.

Minecraft servers do not use gpus AT ALL. No gpu interaction whatsoever.

My native language is C++

You don't need a GPU in an MC server xD

This.

It will cost you crazy electricity bills to run something 24/7 and you will not find the processing power and RAM you need for a reasonable price. The reason I say that is because when you combine the electricity for this thing AND the actual computer itself, when FURTHERMORE this server is not paying for itself in any way, then you will just lose money. Then you also get stuck into all the port forwarding and networking problems and the upkeep of the server and making sure it's secure and agh.... Trust me, I've looked into making a server and no matter what you're making it for, a server is going to be a pain.

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

You will need at least 1000mbps DDOS protection from CloudFlare. And Ubuntu Server, I can guide you how to set that up if you wish.

Stop. Just stop.

Cloudflare is a proxy for forwarding packets with http headers. Last time I checked, minecraft doesn't use http.

Id like to know how your "guide" works, considering Cloudflare doesn't offer a "1000mbps plan".

i believe you can have gpu acceleration, i could be wrong not a Minecraft player.

All game servers are single threaded anyways. There would be no reason to even use cuda acceleration considering there's no physics whatsoever in mine craft.
